Really nice staff and great hotel

The approaching road to the hotel is a dirt road. Made us nervous. Hotel is a bunch of old rock and wood houses. Staff is beyond excellent. Breakfast was really good. Over all, nice relaxing place. NO AIR CONDITIONING.

A lovely old farmhouse in an idyllic location, kindly and thoughtful staff and a relaxed vibe. It's a very small hotel with just a pool and the great Tuscan hills and sky for entertainment. You'll find it at the end of an exciting drive down a twisting unmade road (bikers note that it's not suitable for heavy sports/touring machines) outside the village of Castellina in Chianti. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with lovely fresh linen and plenty of fluffy white towels. Breakfast - fresh and plentiful - is the only meal provided, but that's okay because you're in Chianti and surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants on the planet. And you can always buy goodies in the local supermarket and picnic in the hotel grounds. The staff are what make this place so pleasant to be in. Attentive and helpful, they give the place it's relaxed but efficient vibe. Yes, our bathroom could probably do with updating, as could the sofas in the guest lounge ... and some of the pool loungers were a little bit past their best, too - but frankly so what? It's an unpretentious, charming gem of a place.

Un posto per chi cerca la tranquillità, io personalmente sono stato benissimo l'unica pecca è la stradina di campagna ben tenuta un po stretta e polverosa ma sicuramente ci ritornerò.

Die Betreiberin war sehr freundlich und verbindlich. Ansonsten entsprach das Hotel keineswegs den Ansprüchen in dieser Preiskategorie. Es ist vernachlässigt, ungepflegt, im Haus herrscht eine leblose, muffige Atmosphäre, und es ist ein Inverstitionsstau von mehreren Jahrzehnten !!! nicht übersehbar.

Its a nice spot, although a little secluded. You definitely need a car to access this hotel. Roberta who is the owner is very warm and welcoming. In Italy some of these properties do not have window screens so be prepared for mosquitos. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The views are beautiful and it is really nice to sit outside and view the sunset.

Med lidt hjælp fandt vi stedet ad en lang grusvej. Man kan dog godt gå til byen ad en anden vej. Dejligt pool og fantastisk beliggenhed.

A lovely hotel in quiet countryside

We greatly enjoyed our stay and were well looked after by the friendly proprietor Roberta. If booking through websites such as hotels.com, guests should be aware that the hotel is hard to find. Indication should be given on these sites that you need to check in first at Il Columbaio in Castellina itself. We wasted considerable time not knowing this!

Disperso nella natura!

Nel complesso molto buono!non facile da raggiungere ma a causa della sua posizione: isolato, tranquillo, lontano dal traffico e dal caos... La struttura è' molto bella, pulita ed accogliente... Lo consiglio a chi vuole staccare qualche giorno e a chi vuole farsi coccolare da tutto quello che il Chianti può offrire: vino e cibo spettacolari!

Would come back again.

Stayed here in July 2014 for 2 nights. The owner, Roberta was very helpful. We used this place as a base to visit Siena and. Florence. You need to be careful with Google Maps as it takes you somewhere else nearby, just follow the sign Casalta and you will easily find the place. Lots of parking. We had 2 rooms in the main building, very spacious and clean.
