Our great hotel was a little bit from the city center and the Old Town but was right on the Rambla which is the waterfront beach and walkway. When in the Ciudad Vieja, the Old Town area of Montevideo, you can't help but smell all of the meat being cooked in a massive warehouse looking building. And a severe lack of electrical outlets - we had to unplug the lamps in the room in order to charge phones or a laptop. The neighborhood is "just okay" - it's not bad, but it's maybe a block or so outside of good. Breakfast was good, though they can be a little slow on restocking things that have run out. And having one saltshaker and one peppermill for the entire breakfast room seems a bit stingy."
