Breakfast can be tricky given the differences in taste among our guests from around the world, but after making 20 years of breakfasts, I think we've learned what works. I agree with you, Christian, regarding what we call our "Jungle Road". Most are in awe, a few are in fear. This is a small segment of what was once the scenic route around the island. Those who travel this 200 yards will see a great assortment of the islands plants. At night, they weil be serenated by frogs. Such a nice review. Thank you. We are INDEED fortunate to do what we do. We have only three rooms at the BnB, and I think that's ideal for interaction (if that's what the guests want). This time we had one Berkeley grad, Harvard grad, and a Princeton grad, all in different fields Such interesting, stimulating interaction. Sometimes we have artists, computer people, and even wonderful "normal" people. After doing this for some twenty years, we've learned how to make the most of our guests' time, nature does the rest. There's truly a vicarious pleasure in what we do.

Thank you, Roni, for pointing out the things that displeased you. Our utmost aim is, always, to have happy, satisfied guests. Interestingly, this has never happened before in the enjoyable twenty years of operating a bed and breakfast. (Makes me wonder if perhaps your roommate used the bathroom without your knowledge.) Each of our three bedrooms has a private bath and guests have never, to the best of my knowledge, used the bathroom of another. Regarding sheets and towels, again, we've never had this complaint. The guest tells us, we smile and replace them with fresh ones. Again, sorry for your bad experience with us.

Your comment about the breakfast made Kana (the chef) happy and me I(the farmer who grew the fruits) proud. I'm also happy you wrote what you did about the road. Some comments by others make guests unnecessarily worrisome about the road. To the rest of us, it's a beautiful experiene.. Only goes to show tht we're all different.

I'm sorry, William, but you've given bad information. For people who use the directions and map I send, virtually none have difficulty finding our place. Likewise, I would estimate that 90 % of our guests come with two wheel drive cars (compact, medium, and large) without any trouble. Those who rent 4WD vehicles generally plan to drive to the top of Mauna Kea, Waipio Valley, or Greensand Beach where 4WD is necessary. My concern is that your review would mislead guests and result in unnecessary expense renting 4WD and or unnecessary worry. Just a quick comment about the road to get here. Although it's somewhat bumpy, it has been described in some guide books as part of one of the five most scenic routes in Hawaii. You will see an abundance of native trees, frogs, mongooses, guinnea hens and other birds. The stretch you wrote about is only about 200 yards long and is a county road. Four wheel drive is absolutely unnecessary. Not a good road to be in a hurry on, but for some, this road is a wonderful Hawaiian experience.

Thank you, Karilyn, for your review and for your kind words regarding the views from our plantation and our desire to help you enjoy your stay on the Big Island. Most guests feel the temperature, weather conditions in general, are ideal at our elevation (1,400 feet), some say that it is the best weather they have experienced anywhere and that there is no need for air conditioning. (I don't know anyone who lives at our elevation who does have air conditioning !) Also, I'm not sure what you meant by awkward drive but I assume you're writing about the final two hundred yards of the Old Government Road that leads to our house. Again, most guests think of this short stretch of road as an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Big Island -- no restaurants, souveneer shops, nothing commercial whatsoever, just an amazing variety of native trees and flowers. (This road is part of what is listed as one of the five most scenic routes on the Big Island -- Love Big Island Scenic Drives.) Those issues aside, and Kana and I realize that everyone is different in what they want and expect, we sincerely hope that you, your husband and your oh-so-cute two year old daughter enjoyed your stay at our place and on the Big Island.
