Good location
Very good location at the heart of every iconic location. Needs alot of renovation, tired and old building with basic dark furnishings.The breakfast is poor not even bread to make your own toast. Good for short stay and somewhere to sleep.

Really old hotel
This is a very old hotel in the Avenida de Mayo area. The rooms have no AC and are quite noisy, you can hear people talking in the corridors, also the room carpet feels a bit dirty. Only stayed one night here (thanks god).

A great historic hotel, and a great value. Especially given the free access to the spa. I’ve stayed here before several times. My only issue this time was, the mattress was unevenly worn and past it’s expiration date.

Love this Facility in Buenos Aires.
This property is Unique, Incredible location, adjacent public transportation, variety of nearby priced Restaurants, good shopping. Excellent Spa complimentary to Guests. Highly recommended.

Ignore this hotel please This hotel very good located in Bs As city with historical reviews at the very entry door, needs a complete update/renovation in every room immediately!!!! Service and cleanliness should be a must in a hotel, but sadly you won’t find it in Castelar Hotel.

Very good location and you can see it was a beautiful hotel in the public areas in its prime. It does need some refurbishment in the rooms. It was very economical and we were happy with our stay

Old world charm but you get what you pay for
Very nice staff throughout and room well cleaned. Nice retro recetion area. But room was tiny - this was not flagged by Expedia. Lots of youth soccer teams staying there so extremely crowded at breakfast. On our last night, pounding late at night until 2 am from some type of construction nearby (not hotel’s fault). Drains in bathroom smelled a little from old plumbing most likely.

Nice location, but horrible customer service
The hotel is outdated, but in a good location. The night staff was horrible. I believe they do not know what is Customer Service. The morning staff, is much friendlier and professional. The rooms are very old and musky. The mattress really needs to be replaced. The restaurant in the hotel is very slow, and the food is not the greatest. I don't think this hotel deserves 3 stars, i would give them 2!!!

Beautiful old hotel in historic part of town
Amazing light fittings etc in a beautiful old historic hotel. Great location near the subway and close to lots of landmarks such as Theatre Colon and Plaza de Mayo. Close to lots of great restaurants. Extremely good value for money.

What a shame! This beautiful historic hotel has not been maintained. The lobby still looks beautiful but look at the couches and they're so filthy you can't sit on them! Great breakfast and enviable location but this frequent traveler to BA will never stay here again!

My room was very small. with a tiny bathroom and the window facing the inner tiny and dark inner yard. It was dark and hot in the room all the time. the carpeting, furniture, wallpaper were old and unpleasant.

Good Reasonably Priced hotel in Great location
Reasonably priced hotel in great location just off 9 Julio Avenue and the famous Obelisk. The hotel is a little tired and the decor is old in the rooms and the common areas but the staff are nice and as a cheap place to stay in Central Buenos Aires I would recommend it.

AMAZING!!
While the hotel is older it is absolutely amazing. The service is great, attentive and quick. Each stay also includes free use of the sauna and a few other spa amenities. The location is amazing. 30 minutes from the ferry ports, right off the main Ave (Av. 9 Julio). A 10/15 minute walk to the obelisks, BA sign, and local theater. Also close to many museums and restaurants. Amazing location, condition, and luxury for a great price. Would definitely recommend and rebook

Keep coming back to this old but charming hotel If you want to splurge your money, go to the Alvear, but if you want to save money for your steaks and wine, then , go to the Castelar.

It's wonderful. Highly recommended.
Well into vacation, great location. Immediate access to metro (all lines) at door. Bus Service #8 from Aeroport across street. Walking distance to Florida Street & great shopping. Numerous excellent restaurants.

Don't call it romantic its dump.
Dirty smelly carpet, bathroom with mold, stained linens and holes in the walls. This place used to be grand in 50s but looks like never repaired since. The breakfast was a-ok

Excellent I have stayed there many times. The subway is right in front. The breakfast is excellent except the eggs always seem to be runny. It's an old hotel but they keep it clean and well-kept. It's a great location Overall rating is excellent

Stylish Art Deco hotel in the city centre
Stylish hotel Room was fine, designed to reflect the character of the hotel Bar was excellent, good food and drink served all day by friendly attentive and informative staff. One member of staff was an unofficial tour rep with us and very good indeed. We observed her and other bar staff in their dealings with other guests and they were excellent Hotel corridors a little noisy on two mornings but nothing terrible Subway directly outside the hotel

This hotel was probably very elegant, some time ago. The high ceilings, marble stairs, are wonderful. But the things the management can control (e.g., upholstery and rugs [both dirty and had holes], etc are in disrepair. The i'net does not work very well. The staff was cordial and helpful and the breakfast more than adequate.

Great location. Helpful staff. Above averse breakfast. And fabulous potential! But torn carpeting and chairs. Very poor internet in the rooms (we had to be moved twice to get a room with good i'net). Although the grandeur was very appealing, we tired of how much work the place needs and mover to the Savoy (very nice; $30 more per night; much more modern).

Excellent hotel for the budget minded
After several years of staying at a different Apart-Hotel we decided to make a change and we were pleasantly surprised with this "old gem" what lacks in certain amenities or comfort of a four or five stars hotel is compensated for the friendly staff and the FABULOUS breakfast buffet and is near a lot of "must see" items in Buenos Aires. You could still "feel" the "charm" when famous writer Garcia Lorca stayed at this hotel around 1930. And if you want to visit and enjoy a "boliche atmosphere" of Old Buenos Aires don't miss a Saturday Show at the Guyana (half a block) from the Castelar: Four or five hours of Argentinian songs and dance , dinner and wine for less than US $ 60.00 and you can walk back to the hotel (You can't go wrong, but better reserve an spot Saturday afternoon)

Aging with grace
The Castelar is a hotel from BsAs' golden age, and is showing that age as well. It's a great location, but some things are showing wear and break, like the wifi or the elevator. The charm is still there; the Spa in the basement is a value, and the staff works very hard to run the place efficiently. Breakfasts were great; the restaurants on that block were good and moderately priced. Taxi service is at the front door and fast. No demonstrations going past during the week which aren't that disruptive anyway.

I am a repeat customer to this hotel, and continue to love the Old World Charm of the past 80years. We stayed in a small twin room which was true to size. Thankful for airconditioning as hotel and rooms very hot.The Spa downstairs is like a journey to 1920.. which I love. Front Desk Team very helpful. Breakfast OK.

What I can say is SO GOOD!!
As soon as I arrived in this hotel reception desk and opened my room, I fell in love with this hotel. Friendly staff, and maids as well, so comfortable beds and pillows, big space of room that I could do physical exercise inside the room, nice furniture. The bathroom was tiny but perfect for me cuz I am slim. Before arriving the hotel, I was worrying about street noisy that other travelers complained in their reviews. I just prayed God to help me and the room I stayed was totally quiet and I had a perfect rest. Great breakfast, and spa facility was very impressive.

Wonderful!! We really enjoyed the service and convenience. The staff was very friendly, helpful and protective. My wife actually left her purse in the lobby one afternoon and it was retrieved by security almost immediately without any incident. It is located close to theater district and most attractions. We were there mostly for my business and it was centrally located with almost everything within walking distance or through subway access. The cleaning staff was extremely responsive to our every need. Room service was very fast and efficient as well. We will definitely stay there again and recommend to all. Almost all clientele are from Latin America but staff does speak English if need be. Of course we are bilingual so had no difficulties.

Lovely hotel, attentive staff, generous breakfast buffet with variety, opportunity to utilize spa, gracious front desk personnel (some multilingual) . Close proxmity to public transportation (bus and subway). Or, easy to obtain taxi. Nearby charming resturants, coffee shop (with mate), fabulous "typical" pizza establishment. Felt like safe neighborhood. Internet access in lobby and rooms. Great!
