Find hotels in Boxberg from £38

The best area to stay in Boxberg is around Bärwalde Lake, particularly near the village of Uhyst.

This area is Boxberg's main draw, offering a blend of nature and modern amenities. Bärwalde Lake is the largest artificial lake in Saxony, providing ample opportunities for water sports and relaxation. The lakeside promenade in Uhyst is a pleasant spot for walks, with views across the water.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find Uhyst particularly appealing. Many accommodations here offer direct lake views and access to walking and cycling paths. It's a great base for enjoying the natural surroundings, perhaps with a boat trip on the lake or a leisurely cycle along its shores.

For families, the area around Klitten, on the western side of Bärwalde Lake, offers a good balance of activities. There are dedicated swimming areas and playgrounds, making it easy to entertain children.

Choosing the best time to visit Boxberg really depends on what you're hoping to experience during your trip.

For those keen on outdoor activities, especially hiking, cycling, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape, the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) are ideal. The weather during these months is typically pleasant, with moderate temperatures and less rainfall than the summer. This allows for comfortable exploration of trails around the Bärwalder See and the surrounding forests.

If you're interested in water sports and spending time by the lake, the summer months of July and August are your best bet. The Bärwalder See is particularly popular for swimming, sailing, and windsurfing during this period, and the area often hosts various outdoor events. While it can be warmer and busier, it's the prime time for enjoying the lake's recreational offerings.

Conversely, if you prefer a quieter trip and are interested in observing local wildlife or enjoying the tranquility of the off-season, the late autumn and early spring can be quite rewarding.
