Villa beach Sfinari

Sfinari. 150 inhabitants. It is a fishing village at the end of a coastal road, where Crete has not changed. 10 km from this village, there is more and more concrete on the coast. Sfinari is not yet invaded by mass tourism, and the beaches are quiet. The people are not very English-speaking, it is a cul-de-sac at the end of the world. There are four taverns on the beach whose speciality is fish grilled over a wood fire. It is a place that remains isolated, you will hear the song of the cicadas, the rustling of the olive trees and come across wild goats on the road. Every evening you can watch beautiful sunsets. The cottage is nestled in 1,000 m² of garden planted with hundred-year-old olive trees. There are 4 bedrooms, sleeps 10, the house is 90 m². This house is comfortable but, what makes it charming is its simplicity, the silence. The terrace facing the sea for breakfasts, and the rooftop for sunsets and aperitifs when the sky turns orange. To reach your destination: you follow the coast, a winding road with breathtaking views. The fishing port of Sfinari is a 30-minute walk along the wild beach, or 5 minutes by car. You can moor a boat up to 20 metres (60 feet) comfortably and walk back home. This is an exceptional asset in Crete. Sfinari beach is also within walking distance. The transparent waters make you want to take a dip, you can take a nap on deckchairs in the shade of cedar trees. There are authentic Greek taverns with fish of the day and cooking over a wood fire. Just a few minutes drive away you will find the beaches of Platanakia and Kokkina Gremna and rocky coves to explore, away from it all. It is a wonderful place that makes you want to come back.

Idea for a day trip from Sfinari: 7 hours from Sfinari - 8 hours Chania - 8:30 am Stavros beach (Zorba the Greek) - 10:30 am drive to Lassithi - 12:30 pm Zeus cave - 2 pm lunch on the plateau - 5:30 pm return Chania - 6:30 pm return to Sfinari. Other excursions: Elafonissi pink beach (45 min), Balos lagoon (40 min). Chania airport: 1 hour 15 minutes from the house. For those looking for Crete as it was before the invasion of humans.
