The best area to stay in Bjarnanes is along the main Route 1, particularly around the small cluster of accommodations and services known as Hótel Bjarnanes.

This area is essentially the heart of Bjarnanes, offering the most convenient access to local amenities and the stunning natural surroundings. It's characterised by its proximity to the coastline and the views of the surrounding mountains and fjords. You'll find the main guesthouse and a few dining options here.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate this location. It provides a tranquil base for exploring the dramatic landscapes of the Eastern Region, with easy access to hiking trails and scenic viewpoints. The quiet setting is superb for enjoying the natural beauty.

For those planning to explore the ring road, staying along Route 1 in Bjarnanes is incredibly practical.

The best time to go to Bjarnanes depends largely on what you're hoping to experience, but generally, the summer months from June to August offer the most pleasant weather and longest daylight hours.

For those keen on exploring the outdoors and experiencing the midnight sun, July and August are ideal. The weather is at its mildest, with average temperatures around 10-15°C, making it great for hiking in the nearby Vatnajökull National Park or exploring the black sand beaches. You'll have nearly 24 hours of daylight, allowing for extended sightseeing and photography without the rush. This period is particularly good for families due to the warmer conditions and accessibility of attractions.

If your primary goal is to witness the Northern Lights, then the colder, darker months from September to March are your best bet. While the weather can be more challenging, with shorter daylight hours and potential for snow and ice, the longer nights significantly increase your chances of seeing the aurora borealis dance across the sky. October and February often strike a good balance, offering decent chances for aurora viewing without the absolute depths of winter. This time of year is excellent for couples seeking a unique, romantic experience under the celestial lights.

For those who enjoy winter activities like snowmobiling on glaciers or ice cave tours, January and February provide the best conditions due to consistent snow and ice. However, be prepared for very short daylight hours and potentially strong winds and cold temperatures.
