Nice hotel but lacking in service quality
Our stay at Royal Orchid from 12th to 14th July was pleasant except for a couple of service related elements. When my husband took ill suddenly on 14th morning, we asked for a thermometer - shockingly, the hotel did not possess one, a basic requirement under law! None of the reception staff either could provide an answer as to why this was so. Also, in the coffee shop, the tables we sat at on two consecutive days for breakfast were not properly set. Missing cutlery, saucers, etc. Here, the staff consisted of young boys who could barely speak English and were obviously ill-equipped to deal smartly with customers. While both at the reception and restaurant, everyone was very polite and apologetic and eager to help - the manager was most kind to allow a late checkout in view of my husband's illness - this is not the standard of service one expects from a reputed brand and starred hotel.
On the plus side, rooms are comfy, well appointed and clean. We ate at two restaurants - the Coffee Shop and Dhaba - and the food at both venues was good.
