"Good Centrally Located Hotel"
This a good hotel for staying in Galway. It is just off Eyre Square and close to all of the action in Galway. It is also near to the Information office, the bus depot and the train station. The hotel is comfortable; some might say a little stuffy, but it was a good bargain. Breakfast was included, which made it a better value. The only problem is that the internet connection is incredibly slow. I would recommend it to friends.

"Downtown Galway"
Awesome hotel. Room 302. Double bed and a single. Very nice workers. Great view of Eyre Square, a block from train/bus station and all the outside city tours. Shop Street, appropriately named right there and all the amenities; Irish junk food, small market, ATMS, bars and coffee shops. Busy sure, but even front site windows remarkably quiet. A find.

Pocket Guide: Galway Aughnanure Castle Hotels

Aughnanure Castle is a 16th Century castle built by the O'Flaherty family. The original castle, which stood in the exact same location, dates as far back as the early-14th Century. Located only two miles from the village of Oughterard, Aughnanure Castle is a popular destination for historical tourism. If you’re looking for a taste of Ireland’s rich history, then here is a good place to start.

The castle is built in a tower house formation. There’s a small guard lookout, two upper floors that would have been used for living and sleeping, and a lower floor for storage. The castle’s close proximity to the River Drimneen has left interesting caverns eroded into its lower stone foundations.

The grounds of the castle are also worth an exploration, especially the two courtyards. Legend has it that one of the courtyards once had a trap door that could be pulled to dispose of unwanted visitors. It’s always good to watch your step.

There is a small fee for entry to the castle, which is generally open on most days throughout the year. You can also find guided tours of the castle and the surrounding area. These operate regularly, but are worth researching in advance. The castle is easy to reach by bus or by car from the centre of Oughterard.
