"The entire holiday experience was perfect from beginning to end. Our host, Ray, was lovely. There to meet us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour. Hardly saw him for the rest of our weekend, but was sure he was available should anything go wrong, or need attention. The cottage was cozy and warm and incredibly clean without being in any way clinical. In fact the place was so warm, we turned the heating off and just used the wood burning stove, which was easy to light, and provided more than enough heat. The pool was astonishing! Completely private, warm and, it seemed, bigger than it looked in the photos. There is also a hot tub spa next to the pool and we spent a lot of time in there too. I really can't rate this place highly enough."

"Could just cope for one night. It’s extremely dated, the heating was an old electric heater and didn’t really heat the room well, I was freezing and had to put layers on for bed because the duvet was very thin too. The room must have had a dog in previously, I had a really bad allergy reaction my eyes and nose were streaming and when I put my leggings on I had dog hairs all over them. The bathroom was nice but had a huge stain in the sink and some of the pipe boxing was falling off. The food wasn’t nice and very overpriced, I had a pie that had a very thin, greasy suet lid and the dish underneath was practically thin gravy with barely any meat at a very steep price of £19. I didn’t bother with breakfast however the continental was very well prepared with lots of options and catered well for my dairy free family members."

"Lovely home in a quiet corner, the Thorpe cloud hills and stepping stones as close by. A great base for activities. The hostess was great, apologising for the poor mobile coverage. She stays closeby and offered to help in case of anything. It was hassle-free stay as the house was prepared with all we needed."

"Very convenient location for Alton towers- spacious- well equipped. Only downside is parking is about 5 min walk away (but knew this when we booked)- Only really a pain for unloading and packing up. Ashbourne is lovely and it’s in a great location near shops, pubs, restaurants "

"Good for a local stay for exploring nearby amenities and if your out and about. I would say more comfortable for a family of 5 or 6. Was a squeeze in the living room area with places to sit but dining area and conservatory was lovely! Main downside of our stay is going as a family of 7 and seeing this place sleeps 7 on listing with a sofa bed but actually means someone just to sleep on the sofa. Contacted host which replied quickly saying it says on listing to sleep on top of sofa and says to bring your own bedding which I believe isn't on the listing. Luckily a family member had a sleeping bag in the car but we would of been stuffed otherwise. Car parking was ok, did have two cars and was a lottery ticket to get a car parking space over in the lane over the road but we managed. Overall good stay and would stay again. "

"The property was comfortable and in very good decorative order. However, we were surprised to find numerous dead flies on the majority of window sills (inside) and on the carpets.There were a number of things missing from a standard inventory. For example oven gloves, salt & pepper, only 2 partially used toilet rolls, an inadequate hoover, no broom, no hair dryer and a bizarre/insufficient supply of cooking knives. It appeared that the place had not been rented for a time or not recently prepared for guests, even though the place was clean and the bedding and towels were fine.Given it was a Christmas rental, it would have been nice to have had a welcome pack and some small decorations (eg a small tree). Finally, we were unable to contact the rental office during our stay and subsequently they confirmed that the office was office was not manned over Christmas."
