The best time to visit Altenaffeln is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) for pleasant weather and outdoor activities.

You'll find the countryside green and lush in late spring, superb for hiking or cycling along the numerous well-marked trails that crisscross the area, such as the Sauerland-Höhenflug trail. Early autumn brings beautiful foliage colours, particularly appealing for scenic drives through the valleys and hills.

For those who enjoy a quieter experience, avoiding the peak summer holiday crowds in July and August can be beneficial. While summer offers warmer temperatures, it also sees more visitors, especially at popular spots like the nearby Sorpesee lake, where you can enjoy water sports.
