Quiet countryside location in restored chateau.
Our 4th time here, a re-modeled chateau that has preserved the 19th century ambiance, with exception that bathrooms are 21st century boutique hotel style. Large rooms with tall celiings, quiet location at the edge of town in farm area. Owners are excellent chefs who serve the best dinner in the area at low cost, using local produce. Full breakfast is more than ample. Location is near St Omer which also has good restaurants. Not much going on in Aire sur la lys, but it is a historic town with a few small restaurants.

Lovely and quirky house
The Chateau Molin is a lovely old house. We were greeted in the cobbled courtyard by the father and son owners and went into the lobby which is a beautiful entryway, but had a weird unpleasant smell - sort of a mix of pee and very ripe cheese. We had a slightly Sidney Greenstreet/Peter Lorre welcome from the father who then went to the kitchen to continue cooking. The son took us to the room which was lovely - big, airy with a view over the large shaded garden. Everything was clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. We didn't eat dinner since we didn't want that much. Breakfast was typical - bread, croissants, cereal, hardboiled eggs, homemade jams which were very nice. It was a slightly quirky stay and convenient for the Eurotunnel the next morning (after we negotiated the blocked roads).

A beautiful setting
This is a beautiful hotel, built in 1850 and having an opulence that makes you feel like royalty. Francis, the owner met us and gave us a tour before showing us our room on the first floor. It was very spacious, with a canopied bed and a great view of the garden. It is lovely and peaceful with a comfy bed and tea and coffee in the room. The bathroom had a hairdryer which is very useful. The continental breakfast is lovely with some of the nicest bread and croissants we have tasted. Cedric, Francis's dad introduced himself to us and we did feel very welcome. A really nice place to stay and not too far from Dunkirk about 60 kms.

Convenient overnight stop before Calais tunnel
Very warm welcome from the Father and Son owners into a slightly unusual renovated Chateau as it also still operates as their family home. Full of antiques and bric a brac the public rooms have lots of character. The bedroom, with its canopy bed, high ceilings and large windows was very spacious and clean and had a modern en-suite shower room attached. We had an excellent 5 course dinner in the chateau cooked and served by the owners who had previously checked on our dietary requirements and happily catered for my wife’s preference not to have red meat. Although we had pre-paid for our accommodation we had to pay for our meal and drinks and had been advised in advance that the owners require these extras to be paid in cash. Overall we enjoyed an experience that was very different (in a good way) from all of the more modern chain hotels we had used for the rest of this trip.

Disappointed & Expensive
Disappointed on arrival we were told we'd kept them waiting as the Dr had his pans on we just wanted to have a brief stretch & wait for our friends. Rooms are nice large & bathroom lovely. We were told to arrive for dinner @ 7:30 sharp to meet no such thing nobody there but our group just an opportunity for the owners to sell expensive drinks dinner is a 5 plate menu the contents of all 5 would have gone on one plate. Wasn't exactly fine dining I couldn't understand the urgency of the pans everything could have been prepared way ahead of time. A very poor attempt of a degustation. The dining room was nicely decorated which can be more than said of the exterior the large gardens would have been nicer if there hadn't been so many dead flowers all in all we thought the stay expensive. We cancelled our return stay.

Hello Anne, many thanks for your review. I would like to tell you something more about these guests/hosts. 2 couples from the UK to Italy with 2 jeeps+tent. They will sleep 10 days in the jeep+tent... Upon arrival on the parking we were present at the perron/dooropening to great ou new guests/hosts. They prefered to smoke next to the car for more than 20 min. and keept us waiting in the dooropening while my dinner was cooking on the fireplate... We asked them to come in my private house 3 times as I was worried about the pots on my stove... keeping us waiting for more than 20 min this is lake of politesse and respect to the people who let you sleeping in theire private house. About the drinks, the guest had in total 15 different beers/drinks + 2.5 liter of wime (another +- 10 glaces of wine) so +- 25 glaces in total, not I ou Cedric had forced them to drink.... We had a full house, so we places 5 rooms at theire table for breakfast, we brought 5 times coffee and the, I and Cedric passed several times at each table to ask if you need more coffe or tea or something else... we have a buffet with withe and brown bread, toast bread, ... non one of the party asked me something extra. Dinner is a 5 course surprise dinner, prices 29.99 euro/pppn, price since several years inspite food/wine prices raise every day... most guests tells us to cheap for 5 services you must ask much more for it... to much food you must put less food on the plates... you can read it all on tripadvisor. We had 10 days of rain and storm so flowers in the garder had sufferd... Francis and Cedric

Welcoming pit stop and great food
This was a great stop on the way back to Calais and the UK at the end of our trip. The hotel is near the motorway and easy to find. It's a hotel full of character and if you are travelling with a dog, it's perfect: the owners love dogs and have several of their own. The hotel is located near Aire sur la Lys, which has a few buildings of interest but is a small town, so I fully recommend eating at the hotel instead of in town. The food is stunning and they coped with my odd list of food allergies with great kindness. The owners were very welcoming and the hotel is full of character.

Country chateau in pastoral farm setting
This was our third time here, it is one of our favorite places to use as a base for visiting the area of Nord pas de Calais and a comforable drive to Channel, Brugge and Brussels as well. This is a B&B that is a real chateau that has been remodeled in the period style, on several acres of land. It is not a hotel, thus they are legally obliged to shut down from 11:00 to 16:00, requiring quests to be out and about during this time, and there is no daily linen service. Rooms are large and bathrooms are completely remodeled in stylish modern style. The chateau is in farm country and the experience transports one back in time to simpler surroundings. Several very good restaurants are in the area, including dinner on request at the Chateau, 4 course gourment dinner at bistro prices. The owners ran a restaurant in Belgium, so they are excellent chefs. Breakfast is included, and is more than adequate with basket of croissants and baguettes, cold cuts, yogurt, soft boiled egg, jams, etc, all served at your table. Large cobblestone parking courtyard in front of property.

Stay in a French Chateau
Very impressive building, tastefully restored by the present owners after 2/3 years of hard work. I was met at the entrance by both the owner and his son, and welcomed into the building. Then I was shown my room...about six times the usual hotel size, with furniture in keeping with the period. The en-suite bathroom was also large, and well-equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable and I spent an excellent night in it. Then to breakfast next moring. This was a typical FRENCH one, but regrettably there was no English eqivalent available...the only downside of my whole stay. As I was heading to the ferry at Calais, down the autoroute for around 40 miles, I rather missed this. French breakfsat is not as sustainable!!!

Past its best
Very hard to find, even on the satnav. The hotel/B&B is run by a father and son from Belgium. A once lovely building, now rather faded and in need of much repair, it offers large but fairly basic rooms. The public areas of the hotel are better furnished and more pleasant, as is the garden area. Due to the now suburban location of the Chateau, there are not restaurants nearby. The food offered by the owners is extremely poor.

Beautiful chateau in pastoral setting
This is a completely renovated chateau located near the edge of town 15 min walk to central square. The reasonable rate includes a large breakfast served in a classic dining room furnished with antiques. The remodeling retained classic French chateau features, brought up to designer standards. The bathrooms, however, were very modern. The grounds are about two acres with large back area, bordered by the Lys river on one side and a small stream on the other, in a quiet country farm setting. Both proprietors, father and son, are very accommodating and hospitable. Optional additional five course dinners were excellent as the son, Cedric, has chefs training. At 29 Euros plus 19 euros for a bottle of wine, value is exceptional. A workaround that needs to be considered is that this is not a full service hotel for tax purposes, and as such is closed from 11:00 to 16:00 while the proprietors shop and you are apt to find the door locked, although a cell phone number is provided for urgencies. After 21:00, entry may require ringing the bell as they live there. Minor limitation, definitely would stay here again.
