"The staff were so very helpful. I came down with food poisoning the day we arrived (not caused by this hotel). The staff were so kind and offering advice. They told us where the local pharmacy was. The food was very good, I did have dinner the first night and it was one of the best meals we had in Morocco. I did not eat breakfast the next morning due to coming down with food poisoning, but my travel companions stated it was delicious. The rooms were absolutely adorable and the balcony was...

"My partner and I had a long stay here and said that we would come back to stay, if/when we visit the area again. The breakfast and menu for other meals is basic, though nothing to complain about. The rooms were clean, comfortable and modern. The spa was also basic, though one might research for a more authentic experience; however, convenience satisfied with a relaxing massage. Overall, the facilities are nice with lounges, bar area, two restaurants, pool and poolside service. Plus, the view...

"Excellent Apartment – Highly Recommended! We absolutely loved this apartment! It’s beautiful, spotless, and has everything you need to feel right at home. In fact, it looks even better in person than in the photos! One of the biggest advantages was being able to park our car right in front of the building, in an area that felt very safe and secure. The bed was icomfortable, perfect for relaxing after a long day of traveling. And my husband was especially happy with the kitchen because it had...

Residence Chay - Luxury Appart

10/10 Excellent

"Had a wonderful stay here - they were kind enough to collect me early in the morning after my flight was delayed. The rooms are very spacious and well designed - I wish I could spend more time inside. The breakfast is a must - it’s definitely a great way to start the day"

Kasbah des Cyprès

10/10 Excellent

"Quel endroit exceptionnel! Tout était parfait. Le personnel toujours à l’écoute et poli. De belles petites attentions dans un décor enchanteur. Très belle piscine. Une Kasbah plus belle que nature. Un havre de paie et de silence. Et que dire du dîner. Sublime. Allez à cette Kasbah sans hésiter."

Les Jardins de Skoura

8/10 Good

"My husband and I were only staying for one night on our way from Todra Gorge to Ait Ben Haddou. The last 4km or so leading to the hotel is a dirt track (not the fault of the hotel). The hotel itself is a quirky little oasis that gives off a very peaceful air and is perfect for relaxing for a day. We had booked the Atlas Suite with a rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, that room was already taken when we arrived and they gave us the Nakhla Suite which was on the ground floor with its own little garden/seating area. We were really tired and couldn’t be bothered arguing as we were only staying one night anyway. The accommodation was absolutely fine; however, the safe didn’t have a key, no coffee/tea-making facilities and only a very short supply of hot water. The walls are very thin and the toilet is child-size but the wifi was good and mosquito screens on all the windows meant that we did not have to use the A/C and could enjoy the cool night-air instead. There is a beautiful common terrace from which to watch the sunset and breakfast/dinner is eaten in the garden which is visited by friendly peacocks. The quality of the food is excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner of chicken tajine with semolina and the friendly (if very relaxed) service at dinner; breakfast, too, had a lovely spread albeit again, at a very relaxed tempo. In short, a great place to chill between destinations."

Dyafat Abla

10/10 Excellent

"We spent one night at the riad and had a wonderful stay. Thanks to its proximity to the city center, we were able to explore the most interesting sights on foot. The room, bathroom, and kitchen were clean, and the beds were comfortable. Our pleasant stay was also thanks to the friendly owner, who also recommended a nice restaurant. We highly recommend it!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Afeggou?

The best area to stay in Afeggou is within the kasbah complex itself, as this is where the main guesthouses and facilities are located.

The kasbah complex is a historic, fortified village made of rammed earth, characteristic of the Drâa Valley. It's a compact and walkable area, with narrow alleys winding between traditional homes and guesthouses. Many accommodations here offer views of the palm groves and the Drâa River. You'll find a few local eateries and craft shops within the kasbah walls.

For couples seeking a quiet and culturally rich experience, staying directly within the kasbah is ideal. You can enjoy the unique architecture, the peaceful atmosphere, and often have direct access to guided walks through the nearby palm groves or along the river.

When is the best time to go to Afeggou?

The best time to go to Afeggou is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months.

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, without the intense heat of summer or the cooler temperatures of winter. This makes it ideal for exploring the desert landscapes, trekking, and visiting local attractions comfortably. You'll find the days are long enough to make the most of your explorations, and the evenings are mild for dining outdoors.

Couples often find these seasons superb for a romantic escape, as the comfortable weather allows for leisurely walks through the kasbahs and evenings spent stargazing without extreme temperatures. The natural beauty of the Drâa Valley is also at its most appealing, with clear skies and comfortable conditions for photography and outdoor activities.

For those interested in experiencing the local culture and outdoor adventures, these months offer the best conditions for activities such as camel treks, exploring the date palm groves, and visiting the historic Aït Benhaddou without the crowds or heat of peak summer.
