Previously known as Albert Parade, and then Seawall, South Esplanade was once a promenade of magnificent Victorian mansions and summer gardens. With time, these mansions slowly began to occupy land beyond the dunes morphing Glenelg's streets into a suburb of character and charm. State Heritage-listed Seafield Tower was the first of its kind built along the esplanade. It was designed as two self-contained, 15 room summer residences for Sir Henry Ayers and Sir Thomas Elder, when both were in their late fifties.
