A luxury all- inclusive game lodge experience. The 8km drive from the main road is dirt and gravel so a little challenging for our tiny hire car. A warm welcome on arrival and our room was very spacious and comfortable ( the bed was quite hard but perhaps the mattress was new). An indoor and outdoor shower meant you could wash under the incredible stars in the night sky if so inclined. Lodge was comfortable and well decorated if slightly lacking in atmosphere. Not sure if the pools were for...

We had an amazing stay at the Shamwari Long Lee Manor. Staff provided excellent service pampering us and taking care of our every needs and I had definitely put on some weight. The meals were wonderful we sure had one of the best lamb racks and braai dinner with our ranger was fantastic. Our ranger Abel was excellent, knowledgeable and a very humble man. Abel made sure we had the greatest game viewing experience which included chasing elephant herds and lion prides through the raw vegetation. We...

Beautiful lodge, recently renovated rooms. Service and food was amazing. Game drives twice daily. It was a truly memorable experience albeit a very expensive one, but you get what you pay for.

There is no better safari geared up for families in the world. We had the best time ever as did our seven year old daughter, and the staff couldn’t have done any more for us. This place is THE gold standard in luxury safaris and Riverdene ensured it worked for children too without compromising quality for adults too. Cannot recommend highly enough and thanks so much to all the team!

This turned out to be an excellent family holiday. We originally chose the tented camp option as it was the cheapest way for the four of us to stay on one of the private game reserves (Woodbury Tented Camp is located in the Amakhala game reserve), however I would now recommend this option over a regular lodge as it offered the perfect balance of adventure and comfort (electric blankets on the beds!).

What area of Addo, Eastern Cape, South Africa is best for all-inclusive hotels?
The area around Addo Elephant National Park is the best for finding all-inclusive hotels, particularly for those seeking a premium safari experience. This region, often referred to as Greater Addo or the Sundays River Valley, is where the most luxurious lodges and safari-style accommodations are concentrated, offering an unparalleled blend of adventure and convenience.
For couples and families looking for a truly immersive and stress-free safari, focusing on the park's eastern and safari lodge areas is highly recommended. Here, properties like the renowned Gorah Elephant Camp and Camp Figtree provide an all-encompassing experience, with meals, game drives, and often additional activities included. These lodges offer an intimate connection with nature, allowing guests to relax and fully embrace the magic of the African bush without a single worry about logistics.
What is the best time to stay at an all-inclusive hotel in Addo, Eastern Cape, South Africa?
The most popular time to stay at an all-inclusive hotel in Addo is during the dry winter months, particularly August. This period offers excellent game-viewing conditions, with average temperatures ranging from 15-20°C, making it comfortable for early morning safaris and exploring the park's diverse wildlife.
During August, the sparse vegetation makes spotting animals easier, and the animals tend to congregate around waterholes. While it's a popular time for safaris, it's considered a shoulder season for all-inclusive hotels, meaning you'll often find better value compared to the peak summer months. This balance of prime wildlife viewing and more favourable hotel rates makes it an attractive option for couples or families seeking a high-quality safari experience without the highest price tag.
May is another fantastic alternative. It's just before the peak dry season, offering similar comfortable temperatures and a quieter experience.
