Pocket Guide: 2 Stars Hotels in Montpellier
Find 2 Star Hotels in Montpellier
Located on France’s south coast, just six miles from the sea, Montpellier is a sunny, energetic city with a huge student population. With its ancient university and world-class galleries and theatres, culture and academia are two of Montpellier’s big draws.
Montpellier Must-Dos
It may be one of France’s classiest cities, but Montpellier has plenty of affordable two-star accommodation if you’re on a budget. If you’re determined to stay in a hotel right at the heart of Montpellier, there are a handful of bargains to be had in simple but stylish two-star hotels in and around the old town, where you will find much of Montpellier’s charm and you can meander for free. Grand mansions and historical architecture line the cobbled streets and the energy of the city is best felt here.
Students from Montpellier’s three universities make up a quarter of the city’s population, so there is a lively bar and nightlife scene. Whether you are craving smart cocktails or a low-key bar, there are plenty of bars to check out around Montpellier.
A local favourite is the live music venue Rockstore. It’s near the railway station and you won’t miss it, thanks to the back end of a Cadillac that is sticking out of the wall above the entrance.
Cheap Ways to Get around Montpellier
Head out of Montpellier city centre to the suburbs and you’ll have far greater choice of budget hotels, with a huge range of two-stars accommodation all within arm’s reach of Montpellier’s central hub. From basic but comfortable hotel chains to quirky independent places to stay and homely bed and breakfasts, there is a huge variety of accommodation in this price bracket.
Driving is easier in the suburbs, too, as central Montpellier is largely pedestrianised. But if you are looking to save cash on transport, you can rely on the buses and trams that travel regularly into the town centre instead. Cycling is cheap and seriously encouraged. There is a fantastic modern network of cycle paths all over Montpellier and bikes cost as little as a few euro to hire.
