“Not impressed and disappointing”
Location great but apart from this and the beautiful frontage of this hotel, thats all it has going for it. Rooms are in what can only be described as an oversized 1970s portercabin. We were really disappointed with the accommodation and the level of customer service in the hotel. We also chose this hotel for the spa and again this wasn't an exclusive facility to the hotel guests but built as an add on to the hotel open to anyone passing through. Such a shame as we've stayed at other Macdonald hotels and been really pleased, however I really wouldn't recommend this one.
“Full of Stratford character”
Although the hotel is in need of some refurbishment everyone was attentive and pleasant. The bar and reception are a little on the small side but never the less comfortable. The spa and pool were great. The room contained a huge bed which is one of the most comfortable I have stayed in. The food was good and priced competitively.
“Fantastic location for the heart of Stratford at reasonable prices”
Location - fantastic at the heart of Stratford and 5 minutes walk to town Pleasant staff at all times Leisure facilities very clean with good showers and I left feeling very relaxed
“Warm & Friendly”
This hotel is in superb location. We arrived and the greeting was the best I've expereinced including in USA, yes you might think the room look a bit worn but to me that is part of the charm again its how much youve paid and what you expected. The pool and spa were fabulous. All the staff could not do enough for you the rooms were confortable. and I've stayed in them all in Stratford for business and pleasure. I recomend this hotel it is warm and friendly and not too large or impersonal
“Sheets Not Changed!”
First room we were shown was extremely small and smelled musty and had parked cars right in front of the windows - so nice view not. We complained and shown another room. This was much better. However over the 3 night stay our sheets were never changed despite twice complaining to reception who basically gave impression couldnt give a **** and that this was standard hotel procedure not to change sheets - ugh!.
“2 day visit to Stratford upon avon”
Initial impressions were dulled by having gone through 1 way system at least 3 times before finding hotel. Had we been advised to approach via Banbury (instead of Warwick) would have been better. Hotel itself is large with a lot of character and rambling but very well run with extremely helpful staff (and manager). Breakfast was very good and health club /swimming pool fine.
“Good hotel bu food and drink very expensive”
Staff were very helpful and friendly but cost of drinks, both alcohol and tea/coffee was very high. 2 wines, 3 teas, 2 coffees, 1 cokes 41 pounds. Room service breakfast 17.50 plus tray charge. So take your own night cap and eat breakfast in town. Full english at 5.80 in local tea shop.
“Needs some work”
There are positives about this hotel - the closeness to the town, the gym and spa facilities and the helpfulness of the staff, however for a four star hotel you would expect that there wouldn't be the problems in the first place for the staff to helpfully deal with. Our dinner in the AA rosette restaurant was average, though the price wasn't - a fillet steak at GBP22 which was tiny, a chicken pie at GBP16 which was only warm when served, plus potatoes/veg at an extra cost. The wine was also corked. They made up for it at breakfast, however that was a pricey GBP17.50 per head. Our key cards continually failed to work and being one of the furthest rooms from reception meant a long trek back to reactivate. The rooms are in a 70s built extension on to the manor house main building and definitely could do with a bit of a cosmetic touching up. I would say the hotel was more a 3 1/2 star. If you manage to get a good last minute deal then I would recommend this hotel (although walk 5 minutes into town and eat there) as there is so much to do in Stratford upon avon that you won't spend that much time in the hotel, however if advertised at full price, find a cheaper 3 star - you probably won't notice much difference.
“Jederzeit wieder”
