The George inn

Posted 03-Jul-2014
Pros: The staff
Cons: It needs decorating and updating generally and the carpets are awful.
Location: It was a stopover so we just wanted a room a dinner and a breakfast.
The George was ok. We stayed there as a stop over at the beginning and end of a week in cornwall so used 2 different rooms. The first was cramped because of all the furniture that was stuffed in it. The en suite was painfully cramped and uncomfortable. The other room was bigger but very noisey because of the traffic outside . The bathroom was bigger but the shower hose had nowhere to hook up so showering was tricky. The breakfast was very good and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Would definitely stay again!!

Stayed 2 nights for our daughters birthday for easier reach of Longleat. Staff were welcoming, family room was spacious, big breakfast too start the day! Quaint 'villagey' feel to the inn as well as the local area. For us it was everything we needed. Thank you.

Pleasant village hotel

The George pub and restaurant fulfilled all our needs for an overnight stay. We had a good, reasonably priced, dinner, a comfortable night's sleep and a breakfast that set us up to carry on with our journey.

Big family room near Longleat.

Posted 05-May-2014
We were looking for a hotel with a family room near to Longleat. The room was large and the beds comfortable. We arrived late but no probs and we could eat in the restaurant until 9pm. Friendly staff. Longleat only 20 mins away via a beautiful drive - satnav said 30 but was still saying 10 at entrance to park.

Good stopover

Posted 28-Apr-2014
Pros: Helpful staff, good selection of ales, lovely room with antique pine furniture. Outside area good.Great breakfast
Cons: Shower room very small & not very clean. Evening meal disappointing, food was poor quality for price, didn't seem freshly cooked - soggy fish batter.
Location: Mere is lovely little town near Stourhead Gardens, which are fabulous and where we stayed the following evening. Longleat nearby.
Lovely town of mere with interesting small shops and a good area to walk, went to the top of the hill where the views (and the wind!) was amazing. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and gave us rooms away from the bar as there was a band playing that evening.

good location not far from A303.

Pros: Location and friendly staff. Bar and restaurant served good ale and good food
Friendly welcome, clean rooms, good food. We stayed whilst visiting in the area. The pub is a listed building and whilst the bedroom d├ęcor would not be our taste it was adequate. Bed was fine,.bathroom could have been better but again fine for short stay. We ate dinner and breakfast and food quality was very good. Service in bar and restaurant was good. A bit noisy with deliveries at local co op on Sunday morning. Windows did have secondary glazing so this kept most of noise out. Secondary electric heater supplied to heat room which worked perfectly. Nice white fluffy towels and white linen on bed, all very clean. Made a pleasant stay.
