If One MUST Stay Somewhere.......

Posted 03-Jul-2014
Pros: Right off 126 Freeway. Accommodating staff. Satisfactory bed (after upgrade plus xtra charge).Regular amenities.
Cons: Gut and redo everything.
Location: Restaurant next door (didn't try), Ojai just 1/2 hour away. The real Jewel was the Rabalais Bisro, downtown Santa Paula. Closest thing to New Orleans.
Remember that first time in sub par hotel?! This will bring it al back to you. Vending Machine didn't work. First room was ghetto fab. 2nd was cleaner, nicer, just by a couple of clicks. Carpets throughout were well used. Didn't use pool or Jacuzzi. Had to request leaky iron and board. Read the reviews, they tell it all. My better half talked me into "just get it". Bet it won't happen again.

Any Port In A Storm

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: It was quiet, clean sheets and towels.
Cons: Surround it with a high security fence; remove bars in windows, new furniture, major building remodel, better concealment of the many security cameras
Location: I didn't consider the area safe at night, decent police presence though.
Although not directly related to my stay at this hotel I want it noted that upon arrival at the hotel I had originally reserved, that had been PRE-PAID through EXPEDIA, I found My Reservation Cancelled! Friday evening in a vacation area, 500 miles from home, traveling with my elderly mother, I took what I could get. As for Ocean Gateway, it was modest, worn out, hard beds in an unimpressive part of an unimpressive town, with bars on the windows. It was quiet, clean sheets and towels. Cigarette smoke in the halls was a bit annoying.

Not worth the money

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: A complete makeover would help.
Location: Great fruits to be had locally. California 150 is a real exciting road to try out.
Room falling apart, no elevator, small washer dryer, small pool, but still the better place in town according to the locals.

GOOD buy for the money

Posted 26-May-2014
Pros: See above
Cons: For what it is, nothing comes to mind
The hotel ws just what I was looking for. The price was right, the location compatible with my intended destination (attending my grandson's high school graduation in Ojai) and it was just off the freeway. While it offered no "bells and whistles", the staff were pleasant, the room clean, the neighborhood quiet, and the other guests quiet also.

Won't be staying in the future.

Pros: ...
Cons: where do i begin ?
Location: we were there for business
Hotel staff nice, everything else, meh. Payed $94 per night where we could have paid $61 per night at another motel with similar conditions.

They don't even try to make it nice at this hotel.

The room cost $90, however, the hotel then adds on a $20 deposit for any damage or smoking you may do in/to the room. I could not find staff the next morning and had to leave, so my deposit was not returned. I used a credit card to pay for the room, so when they asked me to pay the additional $20, I found it odd. Their was no remote for the TV which was ancient and broken. I have stayed at many hotels/motels, many less expensive, and have never not had a working TV with remote. The room had a refrigerator, microwave and TV present, but since they all would need to be plugged into the same outlet, and only one of the outlets recepticles worked, you get to choose which one you would like to use. The fixture in the shower/tub did not work, so you could not take a shower/bath. There were two of us staying in the room and my room mate, after bringing it to the attention of the cleaning staff, was allowed to use the shower in a differnt room, but only begrudgingly. Continental Breakfast consisted of poor coffee, powdered creamer and muffins, the muffins were all the same kind. Providing some toast, donuts, or simply a variety of muffins would have at least shown an effort. Decent coffee and liquid creamer would have been enough for me. The beds are old and you feel the wear when you lay in them. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the bedding seemed clean and visually, the surfacesses appeared to have been wiped.

I would not return.

The room was very dirty, especially the carpet. There are bars on the windows and video cameras around the property, so we did not feel especially safe. The service was courteous, but I would not stay here again. For $92, it was not a good value and not worth it.

Save your money and look for another option

Posted 20-Sep-2013 on Hotels.com
Although the hotel was conveniently located for my purpose, nothing else will make me a returning guest: Specially bad are the stains and smell in ALL carpets, despondent personnel, a one-table breakfast area. In summary, save your money and drive the extra 20 minutes to next town, almost any option would be better than this hotel.
