"This hotel was a sanctuary of calm with forest views from every window, excellent food, very friendly staff, and a minimalist aesthetic. Bathrooms were shared as it provided a traditional Japanese experience but as someone who would generally avoid a shared bathroom this was more part of the experience than a drawback. "Stayed at this Ryokan May of 2019. Great location if you want to explore the apps a bit. You are less than 15 min from shinhotaka ropeway which I highly recommend. Also close to kamikoche which is also supposed to be gorgeous. This was my first time in a Ryokan so I don’t have much to compare to. The place is old but I believe most ryokan are. "Came here with my husband and mother. A little sad that there was no view surrounding this ryokan. Unlike the ones I stayed in while I was in Hakone and Sapporo. "I loved everything! It was so nice and cozy and the staff were very friendly. The onsens were amazing! Very convenient location and walkable everywhere. Definitely recommend! Only thing is that the staff doesn’t speak english too well so they told me the free ramen was at 1030 so I missed it the first night. It says it’s until 10:30pm but they only open for 30 minutes (opens at 9pm and last call is at 930pm) so I don’t think that part is super clear. Besides that everything was amazing! "
