“horrified”
l was amazed that they offered us 2 keys one for the front door and one for your room. The desk clerk leaves at 8pm and does not return till 8 the next morning.( What if there was an emergency!!!!!) The rooms were disgusting paint was peeling, carpets were so dirty they were black. This is by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. We will never be back
“Last Location Available”
Reading some of the previous reviews, I had very low expectations and there were no pleasant surprises. the hotel is in an ideal location, especially if you are attending the downtown theatre. All the restaurants, bars and theatre are in walking distance. Despite this, the hotel is an absolute dump. I would recommend bringing plastic sandals for the shower. The suit was very spacious; however, clearly it just meant more work for the staff to maintain. The woman at the front desk made it clear that I was an interuption of her day. She looked at me as if I had 2 heads when I asked her where to park. She said I could leave the car at the meter in front of the hotel, as the parking authority person likes to cut out early on a Saturday and won't be back until Monday. Given the location and the structure of the building, this could be one of the best hotels in Stratford if the owners decided to invest capital. Until then, this should be your last resort.
“Stepping back in Time”
When my wife and I stepped through the the front door we were surprised to by the look. It felt like you were going back in time. The check in person was courteous but lacked knowledge in what was showing at any of the festival theatres. Being a first timer in Straford I was not sure which theatre was playing the show I was attending. (Did not know there was more than one) She had to look it up on the web for me. She did! Then we walked up the stairs walking on the creeky floor to our room. All I could here is that little voice in my head saying what did you get us into. When we arrived at the room it was a little surprising to see how cozy it was, old looking, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom a little small but for the price I guess it was alright. Restaurant was a friendly place and relaxing. Food had a variety to choose from. Would I go back, probably it was conveniently located to the downtown and if your stay is longer than 1 night don't ask for much amenities in the Inn. The one thing I did not read in any of the reviews that around the corner was the tourist bureau and we were able to get free parking for the day. Just go in and ask for a parking pass.
“Apart from the carpets, a pleasant stay.”
The Albert St hotel is in a very old building. As such, it has slightly odd hallways, and slightly creeky floors, but the rooms are very clean, and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever had, and I travel quite a bit for work. Most of the reviews I had read before had to do with the cleanliness of the carpets, but that was only a problem in the hallways, and the overall cleanliness and condition was very good. With a coffee maker, free Wi-Fi, and a comfortable bed, added to the amazing (yet quiet) location in downtown Stratford, I would definitely stay here again.
“Misleading advertising”
The stained carpet and cobwebby windows in the common area made us wonder what was in store for us in our room. The room was clean, (although the carpet was stained there as well) but the bathroom was so tiny that it was difficult to maneuver in. The front desk service lacked enthusiasm. With such a great location, it is a shame that the presentation could not be better.
“Good Location, OK Hotel”
Located in downtown Stratford. Easy walk to lake and many restaurants. Clean but no elevator and all rooms upstairs. Room has the basics but nothing beyond these.
“So sad that owners letting this place fall apart”
Perfect location but this hotel gets seedier and seedier. Room was dirty/dusty and priced like a boutique hotel. What a shame. FYI. Hotel exterior and interior look nothing like the website. Carpets filthy, ceilings full of water stains and bathroom tiles broken. So disappointing.
“Albert Street Inn”
This was the most interesting hotel I have stayed in. The room was very small, but this made it feel cozy and with very high ceilings you did not feel cramped. There are really no services to speak of, we were even given a key to the front door as there were no staff on duty when we returned from the theatre.
“Older hotel, great location. clean comfortable clean rooms”
I was hesitant to stay there because of some horrible reviews, the ''slightly better than sleeping in your car'', comment had me worried... However it was already booked. So here it is, yes the hallway was poorly lit, there is no elevator and you do have to carry your things up 3 sets of stairs, the hallway carpet has had its day BUT, When we opened the door to out room we were plesently suprised. Couldn't believe we were in the same building! The room exceeded my expectations. Brand new carpet, new windows, king size bed with douvet, lots of pillows, seperate dressing room, large bathroom, plenty of towels as well as sitting area with pullout couch. The room was very clean! The parking was dissapointing, you can get a free parking pass from the tourism office, but if you get a good spot , stay parked. You are walking distance from most attractions. Great location. Only 2 blocks to the water, and another block from Tim Hortons. We will be staying there again.
“Terrible”
Do not stay here. The location is good, but that is the only thing to recommend this place. Carpet was FILTHY. There was a sign indicating it was due to be replaced, but I have read other reviews that mentioned the carpet has been in this condition for years. Television was broken, I calle dto let them know and nobody ever came to fix it. There is no staff in the hotel from 8pm - 8am. Parking is scarce, the hallways are dimly lit and confusing and there is no elevator.
