“Great hotel - convenient, nice and friendly”
We were looking for a hotel with charm and comfort near the sights of San Francisco, and that is what we got! Would recommend it to anyone.
“Great location and friendly staff.”
Great service, ambiance and location. Room was a bit small, but then again, most boutique hotels are around that area. Would not hesitate to go back.
“Tiny but very clean room, lobby a bit dingy”
Still searching for the perfect little hotel near Union Square. This one's lobby was a bit drab and the room was tiny, tiny, tiny. On the plus side, the staff was very pleasant, and the room was spotlessly clean. Still, I probably wouldn't recommend it to friends.
“Very impressed”
Wonderful boutique hotel with plusses that not all provide, including complimentary wine every evening, on-site bar and breakfast restaurant, great central location and a very good staff-top to bottom.
“Great Location, cozy rooms.”
It was a really nice small hotel. The decor is nice and feels like someone's home. The only down side was that the bed was a little on the hard side, but that's just personal taste i guess. I would stay here again.
“Great location and service.”
We loved it. Yes, the room wasn't large, but it was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for a visit to San Francisco. The style is fun and pleasing.
“Great Stay - Looking forward to a return visit”
An older building containing 85 rooms, the Hotel Rex was perfectly located for my recent visit to San Francisco. 100 yards from the Powell Cable Car line and within walking distance to the Market this hotel is well situated. Great staff, warm welcome and the glass of wine in the Library while mingling with the other patrons was certainly an added bonus. You are a welcomed guest and you feel right at home from the moment you step through the doors. The hotel is nicely decorated and the room was very nice and tastefully done. Meals within the hotel are excellent and affordable. I certainly enjoyed my stay and I look forward to my return visit to the Hotel Rex.
“Good experience”
We like older style hotels with character and the Hotel Rex fitted this description perfectly. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was very comfortable, although not large. The food in the bar was limited but very good and the service efficient. We would happily stay here again.
“it was fine, old but nice and quite0”
I think I would stay there again
“Try this instead of a chain hotel”
I picked the Hotel Rex because I wanted a more personal touch instead of staying at a Hilton or Hyatt. I was impressed. The attention was much more personal and the hotel felt so much more inviting and cozy instead of the large chic chain hotels. The hotel offers a free glass of wine to its guests between 5-6 each day which was a very nice touch and has free coffee and tea in the mornings. The room was clean and comfortable, but the AC system was older and not as easy as some of the more modern buildings. It was an older building, but to me, that added to the charm. Don't expect everything to be perfect, but embrace it for what it is and you'll love it. The rooms were clean, the sheets and blankets were fresh, as were the towels. The front desk was VERY knowledgeable about the city and were able to give me directions to Chase and Radio Shack as well as recommend me a nice place for a steak dinner. My girlfriend called ahead to let them know it was my birthday and the hotel included a card, balloons and a nice bottle of Malbec (by request) for me. The parking was valet only (or street, but good luck with that) and was more expensive that I expected, but not TOO bad. Wifi was free. Overall, a great hotel. I'm glad I stayed here. Next time, I will definitely consider coming back here.
