“Fair”

We thought we were staying in the main building. There are three different buildings and we were put into a different one. It was nice, but we didn't really see any people moving in and out of there. It seemed as if we had the house to ourselves. I don't think there were a lot of people traveling the night we were there. The room was very old where the floor creaked and the beds didn't seem that comfortable. The temperature dropped the night we were there and we couldn't figure out how to turn on the heaters and they didn't have any extra blankets laying around. There was a fireplace but it seemed it was there only for decoration purposes. The bathroom was very small and very little room to move around in. Breakfast was included. It was fair but there really wasn't a lot to choose from. The bad thing about this hotel, there isn't anybody at the main desk after a certain hour. If you have any problems, there wasn't anybody you could contact until the next morning. We were put on the top floor. I often wondered if there was room on a lower floor in any of their buildings, since we didn't see a lot of people moving around. I thought the room was too expensive and there was limited parking.

Area recommendations
I was just disappointed with Salem altogether. Many of the places they recommended to visit were just tourist traps. It was nice to see the House of the Seven Gables and the Peabody Essex Museum. Everything else wasn't worth the money to see. For the prices the hotels were charging, I could have stayed outside the town and stayed elsewhere where the prices were not so expensive. It was nice staying in an old inn, and it was kept clean, but the prices for this hotel were much higher than what it was worth. I am not sure which area in Salem would have been better to recommend since I am not aware of the different places around that town/city. I doubt if I would ever want to come back there.
Must see
I was very impressed with the House of the Seven Gables. That was worth going to. They say that if you ever read the book, once you saw the house the book would become more real. Many of the other places were only tourist traps-----something young kids would love to go to and have fun. I did like the trials of the Salem witches. I didn't really know much about them and that seemed to be interesting to me. We took the Ghost tour at night. That was very interesting, also, if you have nothing else to do.

“Do not stay here! Avoid at all expense!”

The cost of this hotel was very expensive, and I have stayed at budget hotels with better service and comfort. To start off, the staff was constantly noisy, frequently tried to barge into the room, to the point where we had to yell at them and block the door. What is the point of an in-room hot tub if the staff try to come in there with you? There were other people staying in the hotel who were partying, and generally screaming and getting crazy all night. Eventually during our last night there the police came and were there most of the night in a standoff with a screaming hotel guest. Needless to say this is not what I expected. What really makes this situation horrible is the hotel staff and management have made no attempt to resolve this situation, when I told the staff I was unhappy with my stay, they just flippantly remarked, "oh, yeah, because of last night." I have made several attempts at contacting the hotel to resolve this, but they will not return calls or emails. The hotel has literally made no attempt to resolve this before, during, or after the fact, and has ignored all complaints.

When to go
Automne, Eté Indien, sinon Printemps
Getting around
Must see
