The Excellence

Posted 25-Dec-2014
I can't imagine a better choice for my honeymoon. The staff is so friendly and willing to help out in any way. The rooms were very clean and super comfortable. There is a jacuzzi in every room which was a part of why i chose this resort.

Pros: Ambiance, service, beautiful grounds, restful
Cons: Food was plentiful, but could be better. The river and all but one pool was icy cold. Was looking forward to rafting in the river, but couldn't.
We had a very restful six days at this beautiful resort. The service was excellent.

Pros: Foood, staff, entertainment, drinks.
Cons: Organization upon check in. Water could be warmer in the pools.
Unforgettable experience! Usually don't write reviews, but this resort was just heavenly. From hospitality to entertainment, to food and drinks... Nearly perfect!

Spectacular stay in Riviera Maya!

Posted 20-Dec-2014
Pros: The Basmati restaurant was the best Indian food we've ever had; Agave had wonderful authentic Mexican selections; we ate at each of these twice!
Cons: For a December vacation, it would be nice (if impractical) to heat all the pools. One large pool was heated, though, and very comfortable.
Location: We were less than an hour away from the Maya ruins of Tulum and took a half day excursion there - gorgeous place and excellent guide, Carlos.
From start to finish, we couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Between the two of us, we've traveled all over the world and nothing can compare to the 5 too short days at Excellence Riviera Cancun! First impressions last, and the ornate automatic doors and glasses of champagne upon entry set the wow factor from the beginning. The staff at the resort was superb, attentive to our every need and treated us as good friends. The grounds are gorgeously landscaped and the meandering pathways through the various buildings offer beauty at every turn. Our room - a Junior Suite on the top floor - was pristine and well-appointed with plenty of space. They kept our mini-bar and snacks well stocked and cleaning and turn-down service was well timed during our absences. The bed was comfortable - slept as well as we do at home - and the marbled shower room was huge and lovely. There were plenty of palapas for shade and beach beds around the pools and beach for relaxing. We loved that there were many different places we could go to relax, whether by the beach with music nearby, or a more quiet location by the spa. Staff was readily available to offer and deliver drinks at poolside or on the beach and there were always plenty of warm towels and pool floats around. As for the food - each and every place we dined was fantastic. Not enough room here to detail, but we loved it all! Special mention to Marco (in Basmati) and Tzille ("CJ" - photographer) for their exemplary service!

Relaxing Vacation much needed!

We have been to this resort twice now have loved it every time. The one down fall is that the food is just ok most of the time. You won't be eating very much Mexican food and that's what we would request.

Wonderful time at the Excellence

Posted 19-Dec-2014
Pros: Food and Staff
Cons: Shows. Update Pool/Ping Pong tables & activity equip such as bikes. It is all starting to show wear. Once construction is completed it will be nicer.
Location: Did Xel Ha excursion and loved it! Did Chichen Itza excursion - would not do it again. The number of vendors made it uncomfortable.
Resort and staff were extraordinary. Grounds clean and inviting. Beach had soft white sand. No troubles finding shaded beds or sunning beds at all. Ocean itself was murky and muddy - we didn't swim in it at all. Overall staff went above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. Food was Very Good to Excellent with the exception of Toscana and the Grill and Lobster House - those were average at best. Breakfast and lunch buffets had such a wide variety that you could always find something that fit your palate. The Mexican Fiesta dinner was fun and the food was great. Drinks were plentiful though sometimes we did have to go up to the bar - the beach service was slow at times. This did not bother us at all - it was ok to get moving occasionally. I would NOT recommend upgrading to Excellence Club. Other than a room that overlooked the ocean (ours overlooked the main party pool first, then the ocean - it was loud at times) we could not come up with anything that warranted the extra cost for the Club Level. Spa experience was spectacular! Highly recommend that! Overall our stay was quite enjoyable and we would definitely come back.

Nice property, almost perfect

Second time staying at an Excellence property. Very nice, only downsides were cold pools in December and part of the resort smelled like sewage at certain times, thankfully not where our rooms were though (bldg. 9).

Best Resort out there!!

Posted 19-Dec-2014
Pros: Staff, food, beach, pool
Cons: Nothing
Location: The hotel is only 20-25 min from CUN, the beach is great and many day adventures available.
The place is in great shape, the staff and welcoming and the food is fabulous. There is always something to do or you can choose to do nothing and enjoy the scenery!
