“Hidden gem”
This hotel exceeds others in its attention to detail, providing all that a traveller needs in a very pretty, very French hotel with delightful staff. We had digital tv and free internet in bedroom, this helped with onward planning for our trip around France. The rooms are compact but very comfortable and great value. For three nights we felt very welcomed and at home here.
“A good find”
What a good find. The hotel was very well situated for transport and although in a busy area there was no problem with noise. Our room was not large but was clean and comfortable. We particularly liked the fact that the hotel felt individual not a characterless 'chain' establishment. We found all the reception staff very helpful and able to answer all our questions with detailed information. We would have no hesitation in staying there in future.
“Warm and welcoming”
I have already written a review for trip advisor since I used that site to research hotels before selecting Hotel du Simplon. The hotel was very good value for money and well located - close to shops, attractions and also close to Lyon-Perrache station. The hotel was well lit and the reception desk was manned at all times. As a solo female traveller I felt safe at all times both in the hotel and in the immediate vicinity. The rooms are a little small but perfectly ok for a short stay of under a week. The staff of the hotel were, without exception, very friendly and welcoming and I would definitely recommend it to othere and would also stay there again.
“very good 2 star hotel”
very friendly and helpful staff, the room was on the small side, bur clean and comfortable enough, also very quiet, great location with plenty bars and cafes near by. The usual few unusual characters around with being so close to a main line railway station, but no problems
“I have already recommended the Simplon Hotel to three sets of friends.”
All I was wanting - a friendly, unpretentious, clean, efficiently run hotel with a traditional French atmosphere. The young couple who run the hotel were delightful.
“Value for money accommodation”
Good value for money hotel,in an excellent location in the centre of the city. The rooms were clean and more than adequate for a short stay. The breakfast was basic and better options can be found in surrounding cafes. The staff were very helpful and were able to recommend cafes and bars. The El Pasio Italian restaurant, just down the road from the hotel was excellent.
“ideal for the rail station”
was everything we wanted centrally located , good breakfast
“Excellent and convenient and central location”
The hotel is near both the Rhone and the Saone, the Gare du Perrache, the centre, the University, several restaurants, and so on. The breakfast is minimalist, but does include reasonable tea.
“Will go again”
Nice hotel, with quiet rooms - especially if you can get rooms at the back of the hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Good, clean rooms, not particularly big but with plenty of wardrobe space. At the price, excellent value close to the City centre. Right next door to the metro/tram station, which takes you quickly to anywhere within the City. we recommend you purchase a day ticket (at present 4.40 Euros)for use on any of Lyon's buses, trams or metro trains. Hotel breakfast not very exciting but also very cheap.
“friendly, cheep and cheerful”
Smallish room but that was all we wanted as we were visiting relatives. Bathroom was a self contained unit which at first smelt of something offensive but covered the basics. Bed was wonderful and cosy (approx king I would guess although seemed slightly larger). had solid sleep although partner woken by bin men in morning . Showers cured the bathroom of lingering smells and we headed down for a very simple breakfast. Lots of building work inside the hotel but the workmen did there best to keep the noise down so we weren't disturbed by them at all. All the staff were helpful and most spoke or understood English. WiFi was provided free and there was a pc/dvd player which doubled up as a tv although I still have no idea how they really worked. Location wise we were very near a metro/ tram station and the annual Christmas market was in full swing at the end of the road. I was told later that the area was dodgy but we had no issues with it and did walk back from the old city and Bellecour on a couple of occassions. All told a very pleasant stay for a very reasonable price. A week later and we would have been snowbound and due to the light show in Lyon hotel prices would have been exhorbitant.
