“Excellent, friendly hotel with amazing service - highly recommended!”

The hotel and the staff all surpassed our expectations. From the moment we arrived we were treated extremely well, the hotel staff were always friendly and willing to help in any way they could. The room we had was very newly furnished and extremely clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable and having our own spacious jacuzzi and balcony was great. The swimming pool was very well maintained and the reception / restaurant / bar staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. I work for one of the world's largest conference companies and have stayed in many hotels in North America and Europe on business. This compares very favourably to the places I've stayed. I was very impressed with the Macaris and especially with the staff and cleanliness of the facilities. My wife and I would have no hesitation in staying here again and I recommend it to anyone visiting Rethymnon and Crete - a superb holiday which we'll always remember.

Area recommendations

Visit the large beaches, the Ventian fortress and even take a mountain hike to the Mili (Myli) Gorge if you are feeling adventurous!

“Best time ever”

It was a last minute reservations as I have had some spare time which I wanted to spend with my family in Greece. Macaris it's absolutely fantastic. Clean, spacious, very comfortable with extremely helpful and friendly staff. I can't wait to go back. Unfortunately SPA is not open yet, but they do have some beauty treatment available on request.(manicure, massage etc...) Every member of staff is able to communicate in english, restaurant need to improve a bit (open only for breakfast) but our stay was amazing, I had really enjoed it...

Area recommendations

Car is not essential but usuful, just 20min walk to centre of town. Road work around the hotel makes the trip a bit difficult.

“Very Impressed!”

Loved the hotel! Super accommodations, comfortable king-size bed, spacious bedroom and living room, large well-furnished balcony with a great view of the sea, good breakfast with lots of choices including several different kinds of eggs, breads, cereal, juice and fresh fruit, convenient kitchen in our suite with large refrigerator, well-functioning air conditioner and TV. Short walk to some very good seaside restaurants. Great service from the staff who went out-of-their way to assist us with lost luggage, find a doctor, arrange for tours, etc. I highly recommend this hotel!

Area recommendations

The old town for shopping and site-seeing. The west end of town (west of the Fortress) for very good and affordable dining. The hotel is not located in a scenic neighborhood (i.e. there are some old and run-down abandoned factories nearby) or close to a large beach, however it is within a 10 minute walk to fairly decent snorkle areas and a 15 minute walk to the old town and the large sandy beach in Rethymno.

Getting around

Because Crete is such a large island with lots to do and see, I recommend renting a car. Local travel within the city of Rethymno can be done on foot.

What to pack

Recommend packing light. No need for a lot of fancy dress-up clothes. One pair of decent walking shoes, one pair of sandals or beach type shoes, one pair of running or tennis shoes (if you enjoy sports and hiking), swim suit, snorkel and mask, a few t-shirts and polo shirts, one or two pairs of shorts, one pair of comfortable loosely fitting long-pants for the evenings (men), or two summer dresses (women). In the summer, no need for jackets or coats.

Other

Highly recommend a hike through at least one or two of the gorges, including the Samaria Gorge and the Imbros Gorge. Make sure to wear the proper shoes for a long walk on rough service.

“Das Hotel liegt ca. 20 Gehminuten von der Altstadt entfernt.”

Das top modernisierte und komfortabel eingerichtete Hotel befindet sich trotz Altstadtnähe in einer sehr ruhigen Lage mit Blick aufs Meer. Die Appartments haben eine sehr großzügige, mit bequemen Möbeln ausgestattete Terrasse, zu der jedes Zimmer einen separaten Zugang hat. Der Service ist zuvorkommend und freundlich. Ein kleiner, öffentlicher Strand befindet sich vor dem Hotel. Die Bademöglichkeiten sind jedoch eingeschränkt. Das Hotel hat einen kleinen Poolbereich mit Meerwasser und sehr bequemen Liegen. Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!
