“Happy Surprise”

We were a bit doubtful about staying again in the Thomas Edison. We'd always requested rooms with a good view of the water and Blue Water Bridge, and lately these rooms have been looking pretty shabby. This time, due to our stay being the weekend of the Port Huron/Mackinaw Race, we took what we could get. The room with just a partial view of the water -- majority view is of the parking lot -- was in great shape! We may indeed come back more often to this old friend of a hotel.

Area recommendations
There is a nice park just south of the Thomas Edison, as well as the river walk right in front of the Inn. You won't be able to resist a stroll along the water, especially since this spot is the best for viewing the giant thousand-foot freighters up close as they turn and go under the bridge. We also highly recommend the River Crab restaurant, about 15-20 mins to the south, in St. Clair. It's also a great place to view the river traffic up close while enjoying an excellent meal, especially Sunday brunch.

“view of the river is great”

The hotel has the best view of the river and the big ships. It is in dire need of a fix-up. The rooms are very worn, the furniture is worn, the beds very old with little pieces of sponge to hide the springs coming through. The patio door hardly opened and the screen barely shut. The carpets are very dirty. If it wasn't for the view we would not have gone there. We had breakfast in the dining room, it was fine.

“Old and very dark hotel”

Out of the way location. The whole hotel is very dark and not in a good way. Everything needs a facelift.

“Great room service”

The hotel, although it is supposed to have the feel of a bygone era, could use some minor renovations & upgrades. It had a pretty outdated feel to it. But it was very clean & the views were quite nice. The staff was very friendly & the room service was great! It was SO reasonably priced & the portions were huge. We'd definitely stay there again.

“We go back annually for our Wedding Anniversary”

Enjoyed the water and bridge view. Hotel is quaint. Grounds are well maintained. Furniture will need to be replaced in the near future. Overall, it is a peaceful get-away.

Area recommendations
We enjoy any area near the water and they have a great walkway along the water.

“not impressed”

The bed was hard as a rock. One of the elevators smelled like urine, I had to hold my breath every time I got in it. The shower kept making a high pitch screching noise.

“Maybe I'd go back”

Was supposed to have a room with a city view and 1 queen bed amd 2 dbls, instead had a room with a view of the parking lot which faces away from the city, they gave us a room with 1 queen and a dbl.

“Quaint historic inn on the river”

I lived in Port Huron for sometime and had once attended a prom at the Thomas Edison Inn. It was fun to finally stay here! The staff was mostly very polite and we loved the restaurant and room service so we could avoid leaving to go find food out in the cold winter weather. The kids liked the pool and I enjoyed being able to exercise just downstairs from our room. The only drawbacks were the somewhat uncomfortable bed and squeaking sounds it made, and the hostess at the restaurant was somewhat unpleasant. Otherwise no complaints- the room was big and had everything we needed, although this obviously is not a very modern hotel.
