Good independent hotel

Pros: Lovely spa facilities, nice quality clean room which included tea and coffee, hair dryer, iron and board. Great value and very relaxing surroundings.
Cons: Quality of hot food served at breakfast and staff could be trained better but they could not be faulted for effort or friendliness.
Location: Located 11 miles from York and about 13 miles from Harrogate. On site spa and treatments well worth a visit. Golf course and gym facilities.
Aldwark Manor offers a good standard of accommodation in a rural location and offering spa facilities. It is a large country house surrounded by grounds which provided walks in peaceful countryside. The golf course looked popular although we didn't try it ourselves. The staff were very friendly and polite and they were thoughtful enough to locate our room far away from wedding festivities which were taking place on the first night of our stay. We stayed two nights. Our room didn't have a view because it overlooked a tiled roof but it was nicely decorated and clean. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection of continental and hot food. On the first morning, it was a little disorganised but staff did redeem themselves on the second morning. The hot food was not the best we have experienced being either under or overcooked and served tepid but it was acceptable for the price paid. The spa facilities were excellent and not too busy. There was also a gym. We found the food and service at the local pub just down the road excellent and well worth a visit. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay at an independent hotel.

Practically faultless!

Lovely hotel in a great location. City of York is a short drive away and there's plenty to see and do there. Room was clean and spacious, with plenty of storage space! The hotel accommodated to specific dietary needs really well and even provided special biscuits in the room without request. Staff were very friendly and eager to help. We had a few minor issues with room service, however these were sorted very quickly after we spoke to reception. We were very satisfied with our stay and would recommend to anyone.

Lovely surroundings, clean and modern

Posted 01-Mar-2014
Pros: The appearance was elegant and interesting, nice open spacious grounds. The pool lovely and warm
Cons: Attitude of spa staff, who were off hand when I enquired about a massage, which was fully booked.
Location: Lovely countryside to explore, Stately house and grounds (house closed on our visit) but grounds lovely, York close by.
The hotel staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Special mention for the housekeeper who could not do enough to make our stay comfortable, also reception staff who were very helpful.

Pros: nice building
Cons: staff attention to customers and no snotting off because we were an older clientel
we purposely booked this hotel with it being a spa break and it being our anniversary but try as we might to book some treatments we were unable to find any spa staff from getting there on the Saturday afternoon to enable us to have a treatment and on sunday afternoon when a member of staff was found we were told as its half term they were fully booked and that we should have pre booked as they were full until late on Monday at 3.30pm but we probably wont be back as it is a bit out of the way and I would suggest starting to spend some money on refurbishing as some of the public areas were looking quite neglected and the presentation of cocktails for the price was absolutely shocking £10.60 for 2 drinks in very plain glasses some training required

Lovely hotel although does require some decorating. We stayed in the old part and the rooms are very dated but it was comfortable and clean.

Pros: The large rooms of the hotel and the great staff
Cons: Maybe copy receipts could be given for anything that is signed for so they can be checked before going to settle up .
Location: It is easy to get to York, Harrogate and Knaresborough plus there are a lot of villages nearby to visit.
Lovely hotel, We were given a quiet room, which is exactly what I wanted. The only noise we heard was from the fireworks on Sunday night, looked out and saw a fantastic display . We really enjoyed that. Every member of staff we had occasion to speak to was pleasant, efficient and helpful. They are a credit to the hotel and certainly made our stay all the more special . We had lunch and drinks in the bar on arrival which were very good and served 'with a smile' by a smart and professional waiter. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the second night ,having eaten at a local pub the first evening, and again, appreciated the pleasantness of the staff . The menu gave us plenty of choice and both my husband and myself thought our selections were excellent. We both enjoyed using the swimming bath and I had a couple of treatments in the spa section. It was a lovely young lady who gave me a skin treatment and massage , even her voice had a calming effect, and I hope I can have the same treatments if we visit the Aldwark Hotel again. I certainly would recommend this hotel and I sincerely hope my husband and I can manage another break there soon .

Enjoyable stay deep in the Yorkshire countryside

We had a lovely short break at the Aldwark - a lovely manor with a fascinating history - where the Dambusters raid was planned during the 2nd world war. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean, though not luxurious. The spa is wonderful, and breakfast was substantial and of a high standard. Friendly service. The location is a little remote and takes some finding, and if eating out, the nearest restaurants are at least 7 miles away. But it is a beautiful quiet location, very peaceful. It's probably the Spa that gives this hotel the 4* status... rooms weren't quite that special, but it is to be recommended for a short, relaxing break.

Idyllic location, beautiful hotel, awful breakfast

Posted 17-Dec-2013 on Hotels.com
Fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting. Perfect for golfers. Lovely spacious room with flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a comfy bed but the heating must have been on high throughout the hotel as everywhere was too hot and stuffy, even the corridors! Shame about the breakfast the next morning, everything was barely luke warm, had to queue to make your own toast, dirty cups, poor staff service. Enjoyed our stay after a day in York Christmas shopping but the whole experience seriously let down during the breakfast sitting. Would stay again but wouldn't accept the warm breakfast....would order from the menu to ensure it comes piping hot!!!
