Visiting London

Posted 08-Sep-2014
Good location, outside congestion zone, parking and tube station, Kensington Gardens across the road, garage & petrol and a Waitrose store.

Location is good, service is bad

Posted 19-May-2014
Pros: Location is right in front of hop-on/off bus tour stop and within walking distance to two tube stations
Cons: Please improve your room service. Hotels (especially in tourist-heavy places like London) should offer 24-hr functioning kitchen for room service.
Location: Location is right in front of hop-on/off bus tour stop and within walking distance to two tube stations. Its also right in front of Kensington Gardens
I picked this hotel because I read some really good reviews. I booked for two nights. After the first night, I was wondering why there were so many good reviews... After a whole day of exploring London, I was extremely tired and ordered room service around 11pm because I was told that room service was "24 hours". However, when I tried ordering a main course, I was told that the "24 hour room service" was only for sandwiches. That's it! Sandwiches! Very disappointing. So technically, they really don't have a 24-hr functioning kitchen. The only saving grace of this hotel is its location because it was right in front of the hop-on/off bus tour and within walking distance to two tube stations which are Queensway and Bayswater.

Great surprise hidden inside!

The hotel was located in a great location - close to several great places to eat and shopping. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was clean, however small - but sufficed just fine. Breakfast was good - the buffet had many choices. I would definitely consider booking there again!

A Seedy Thistle!

Posted 02-Nov-2010 on Hotels.com
I first stayed at the then Ambassador hotel in April 1974 and for the following 25 years was a regular. During this time they became a Thistle Hotel. This is my first visit for about seven years and this hotel is now quite seedy. My bathroom, had a chipped bath in several places, mould on much of the tilling, broken toilet seat, very old and thin towles. My room had stains on the carpet, the desk surface was stained and very worn, the trouser press did not work. The two lifts that were operating were very old and slow and shabbyand small. This hotel is a shadow of the old Thistle and needs an urgent uplift in standards.

Thistle Kensington Gardens is a great location

Posted 04-Sep-2010
It's a short cab ride from Paddington Station and walking distance to Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, and High Street. A quiet little entrance on a side road (just steps from the corner) and the lobby is up one floor. Really a nice little place!

Great base for Exploring.

Posted 16-Jul-2010
I arrived in the middle of the night - hours later than planned and was checked in and in my room less than 5 minutes after arriving at the hotel. Service was efficient and friendly. Room was small, but clean and comfortable. Shower was great - good pressure and lots of hot water. The location was excellent for my needs. 24 hr convenience store at the Shell station was useful for stocking up on much needed water, snacks etc. in the wee hours of the morning. Many good cafes, restaurants, food shops nearby. I would not recommend this hotel as a "destination hotel" but rather as a good place to sleep, shower, change clothes etc while exploring London.

Good location, rooms compact.

Posted 07-Jun-2010
This hotel is great for a quick break in London. Nice location, opposite hide park and with 2 tube stations very close too. Rooms we had (720 I think) was quite compact. Double bed seemed very small. Otherwise, clean and Ok for a whistlestop trip.
