Average hotel in need of renewal
The hotel is average in general, but it seriously needs some maintenance and updating to a more current look. Rooms are large and has all the usual. Strange though that there are no insect screens on the windows and there is hardly any place to work in the room. The service is good and friendly. The food in the restaurant is barely edible and I would definately give this a miss.

Not as good as it use to be but Im not readytostop
The Wifi sucks, the connection drops you constantly and the speed is very very slow, to the point that i stopped using it and went to my cell phone. It use to be faster, I been staying here off and on for three years. The wifi use to be good. I complained to the front desk about the wife but they did nothing. The large safe is good. The taxes here at this hotel are some of the most expensive in Kampala. more that some five star hotels. This hotel does have a breakfast, I have no idea why that isn't stated on hotels.com The swimming pool is private, unless they are having a wedding. But it does need to be kept cleaner, it shows signs of high levels of bacteria. Hotel bus boys are the best. Room service was good except slow. Menu is limited.

Good value for the money.
Stayed on the fourth floor, no elevator. Breakfast was buffet, limited choices. Staff was very helpful. Door lock had to be repaired and safe lock had to be opened up and sink would not drain, but they fixed all these things soon after I complained. The safe is large enough for my laptop and the swimming pool was quiet, a few children from the hood was in it and the water a little murky but overall I think this hotel is underrated. I will return..

Great place on the outskirts of Kampala.
A great location on the edge of the big city of Kamapala. There was lots of shopping at the mall across from the hotel, and the room was comfortable, quiet, and clean.

Never going there again!
I regret staying at this hotel. The reservation manager and the hotel manager made me sit at the reception for two hours just because they had not received a confirmation email from hotels.com about my booking. I had paid in full by my credit card online and despite of me showing them the payment confirmation I had with me, they didn't believe me. I kept requesting them to at least check me in and if in case they don't receive a confirmation, I can always get in touch with hotels.com and address the issue. But they didn't check me in until they got a confirmation from hotels.com. The staff is rude and lack empathy.

Not perfect but I intend on staying here again
Was there two nights. Large room. Clean. Had shampoo, soap, no water in the fridge, no microwave, had a safe large enough for most laptops. Bed was kind size but hard, large bath tube, I had the executive suite. There is a swimming pool that is a little small and a little cloudy with bacteria but I did not get sick from it. The breakfast is ok, nothing great but it will get your through the day. No hidden expenses, no credit card required to be kept on file but they did copy my passport. Service was excellent.

Shame about the WIFI
Nice comfortable hotel hidden up a dirt track 15 minutes by Boda from the centre. Great pool. Good food. Some staff really helpful and kind. Others sleepy and uncaring. WIFI just did not work. If it did, I would probably go back.

Great Value for Money. Very kind staff
I stayed at City Royal Resort Hotel for two nights in March. It is closer to a budget hotel than a luxury chain. But if your expectations are right, you should be very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is outside of the central district, but it is right across the street from a brand new, and upscale shopping mall that also has a Nakumatt, which can be useful if you need small things. The mall also has a bar and several restaurant - of which the Indian restaurant was particularly good, even if it was set in a food court-like situation. The rooms were a bit ill constructed, as has been my typical experience in Africa. Water pressure is light and there was no shower curtain in my room. But given the rates they charge, I was generally pleased. The room was mosquito free. To top it off, I stayed with City Royal over my birthday (and very far from home and family), and the staff very unexpectedly brought me a cake and sang me happy birthday! There was no way to eat it all on my room so I brought it down to reception and it was gratefully received.

For the money its a good deal
I am a USA physician, I am a platinum member of Delta Airlines. I fly a lot and all over the world. I stay at a lot of hotels monthly. Compared to USA hotels, this hotel, like most Uganda hotels are substandard but compared to other hotels in Uganda this one is about the average. Average, meaning, the hotel needs fixing up, things dont work that should work, etc.. If you choose to stay here then know that there is no gym, there is no microwave, there is a fridge, the internet works good and is reliable, there is a complimentary small buffet breakfast, the swimming pool is ok but is open to the public, I stayed on the side opposite the pool because they do have parties by the pool that is noisy at night. The beds are hard, almost as hard at the floor. Room service is slow and the food is average. Also, this hotel is used by the locals mostly, if you are white like I am you will be one of only a few there, not many whites stay here, I also add that, although I got a lot of staring at me no one was rude to me concerning my color or race. I paid $150 per day for the best room, I thought it was worth the money. I would stay here again. I fact I have stayed here four times now. However, I don't think I will stay here anymore because I want a gym and a softer bed

Great location as it was close to the centre of the city yet far enought that it wasn't noisy around the place. Wish the pool was cleaner. Great Italian place within 5 minutes of the place.

Better than I expected.
The patron review was just above a 3 so I wasn't expecting a good hotel but to my surprise it was one of the best hotels I been to in all Africa. The pool was nice, the room service was nice, the room was very large and reasonable priced. No mosquitos in the room. Two drawbacks were, they didn't have a key for my room so I had to wait while they made me one and that took a whole day, also, there is no elevator so you have to do stairs and that is no fun if you are on the top floor. I would and probably will stay here again soon. PS. the breakfast was a buffet and it was ok, not great but not bad. There was a safe in the room.

Very nice staff, but this hotel is not at all worth what I paid for it, compared to other past hotel stays in Kampala. While my room was spacious and sunny, the carpets were incredibly dirty, the bathroom had no hot water, poor lighting, and a bunch of little black moths living in the shower. Would definitely not go back.

Incredibly nice staff, lackluster facilities.
I hate to leave a negative review because the staff were all so amazingly sweet, but this hotel really wasn't worth what I paid for it. The room was spacious and pretty, with a nice view of the pool, but the internet was practically unusable, the carpet was VERY dirty, I couldn't get hot water for more than the first 30 seconds of each shower (and the shower itself was filled with these tiny black moths, ick). I've stayed in plenty of other budget hotels in Kampala that were, in most respects, much nicer. I will say that when I arrived and needed to go out and get a new battery + sim card for my phone, one of the employees very sweetly insisted on walking with me to the relevant stores and making sure everything was fairly priced. Also conveniently located next to large mall with a good cafe (Brood) and grocery store (Nakumatt). Otherwise, though, not much to recommend.

Staff was nice. Food is good. Beds were hard. You can feel the springs in them. I could not sleep well. They just need to provide some type of bed padding. Complimentary water was not provided every day like it was suppose to be. Location is good.

My overall experience
What attracted me to the hotel was its appearance, free wifi and competitive pricing. Upon arrival I was not disappointed but when I checked in, I found that the furniture I'm my room either had handles missing or none at all in some cases. The bed mattress was also very hard and the wifi was sluggish and intermittent. The food was average, and most of the staff in the canteen were less than helpful @ the best of times with a distinct lack of commitment to customer service. For a simple late night meal/snack, a waiting time of 30-40 mins for room service was not uncommon, oh and not to mention the small fridge in my room wasn't on/ working and it didn't look like it had been turned on all year. All in all I am a little disappointed. Overall experience, 5/10

Great hotel for family
Advantages: Quiet, much quieter than the more popular hotels along Kampala road since it is 10 minutes from center by taxi. Nice garden and pool. Good for family stays, good value for money. And the best food of 3 hotels I ate in. Try the grilled goat, pork ribs curry and fresh mushroom soup. Disadvantages: Water would leak out of the shower area onto the bathroom floor. Not in the center.

Home Away from Home
The service is warm and responsive. The people are engaging and helpful. In short a home away from home. Moreover the hotel has super grounds. A relaxing garden and family pool. I would definitely stay there again. cheers

Good service and good people
The hotel location, Bugolobi, is not so far from the city center, but in a quiet neighborhood. There were a couple of nice restaurants and bars around the hotel. Clean rooms, wonderful breakfast and free wifi are the best points I recommend. The hotel service was amazing!! Especially when we had to make last minute changes in our stay, the hotel manager flexibly helped us throughout the process. I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you very much.

We did not have a good experience in this hotel. Every time we ordered any food (at lunch or dinner) we never actually got what we ordered. This became a running joke with my husband and I as we never knew what we were going to eat. The worst thing however, is that when they made these mistakes there was no apology or attempt to compensate us by giving us free drinks or something. And what is worse is that they then tried to charge you for the more expensive thing you did not order. The location of the hotel is quite far out of the city and is not that good. We asked the receptionist (who was generally unhelpful) what there was to do close by and she said nothing. She was not even able to recommend us anything to do in the whole of Kampala! The receptionist staff (other than the lady in the evening who was very helpful) were useless. We aksed them whether we should book a taxi the night before for our taxi the next day and she said no need. Then when we checked with the night secretary she said we absolutely had to book the night before. The same lady also told us the wrong times for breakfast etc.

Above the rest
The first day we (3 rooms) had a few room issues, but they were solved in a matter of hours. :-) The price for the room is a great deal compared to another hotel we stayed in two years ago. The pool is gorgeous, the food very good. The restaurant and grounds by the pool were lovely. The staff very, very helpful, and the rooms were exceptional for the city. The bathrooms were so pretty, with a huge shower. The AC worked beautifully. The mattress is harder than US but not to where you couldn't sleep. (great pillows) All rooms have refrig, personal safe, plenty of drawers and hanging space. The rooms overlooking the pool are smaller than the ones overlooking the parking lot or neighborhood. Ask for the largest rooms if scenery isn't a big option for you. We were able to use the internet on our own laptops free until the 5th day. There were UN reps staying there, so they cut off the server for everyone but them. Okay though. Hotel is guarded by gates and fence, with a strong security, although we never felt a lack of safety. (walked up and down the streets to restaurants at night) We definitely will stay at this hotel next time.

Vorhänge und Gardinen sind schlecht befestigt.
Die 9 Nächte waren zufriedenstellend. Der Service war gut. Das Frühstück ebenfalls. Der Teppich müsste mal ausgetauscht werden wegen der vielen Schmutzflecken. Der Preis steht nicht im Verhältnis zur Qualität des Zimmers.

Нормальный отель для транзита, больше одной ночи едва ли стоит останавливаться. Завтрак был готов рано утром, как мы и просили (обычная угандийская еда). Горячей воды приходится ждать минут 10, но идет без перебоев. От центра далековато, но можно без проблем доехать на такси.

Trevlig personal men besvärlig utcheckning
Vistelsen på hotellet var i stort till belåtenhet. Trevlig och tillmötesgående personal, bra rum, bra internet-uppkoppling och bra service när vi höll i ett eget mingel vid poolen för inbjudna gäster. Det enda som lägger sordi på vistelsen var att trots att hotellet angav att de tar VISA-kort kunde vi inte betala med dessa, trots att vi hade ett flertal olika kort. Tyvärr ville inte hotellets chef godta att vi istället betalade in per faktura utan hon krävde att vi skulle åka runt på stan och ta ut kontanter vilken tyvärr inte var möjligt då bankautomaterna har en limit på uttag per dag. En utcheckning som skulle ha kunnat vara klar på en halv timme tog nu 3,5 tim! Så var beredd att betala allt i kontanter om ni bor på hotellet, som i övrigt var bra.

Das Hotel war sauber, leider war eine Mitarbeiterin an der Rezeption sehr unfreundlich und versuchte uns ein zweites Zimmer zu vermieten, da es jawohl nicht ginge das Vater und Tochter in einem Zimmer schlafen würden. Bei den Frühstückszeiten könnten die Betreiber etwas ändern bis 9.30 Uhr war für uns etwas knapp.
