“Definitely not a 4 Star hotel. Would rate the hotel as 2 Star”
First impression of the hotel was good but as soon as we entered our room it was a big let down. It did not look like a 4 star room and had a door inside it connecting our room to another room where another couple was staying. I was definitely not impressed as I could hear them and you do not expect that when you have paid for a 4 star hotel. We always got what we needed by contacting reception. 2 of the staff members were very nice and polite however the other staff was not really interested in anything and seemed bored of their job and looked tired all the time. I would suggest Sultan Ahmet as location to stay but better avoid Hotel Artefes as a place to stay because it is not a 4 star hotel.
“boring breakfast and no internet!”
nice front desk folk, very helpful and polite, but no internet in this day and age is unaccetable. breakfast was mostly cheese and cereal and inedible sliced meat and olives with machine coffee and watery juice. small rooms and spa services unattended unless you request an hour or more in advance....so i didnt bother them.
“Charming Hotel in Great Location”
We loved our stay at Artefes in Istanbul! The staff was so kind and helpful--from the welcome drinks to tour recommendations to the early check in. The breakfast was very authentic, delicious, and plentiful and served in a room with beautiful views of the sea and the Blue Mosque. The room was small (to be expected), but very clean and comfortable. The location was terrific--less than 10 minutes walk to the Blue Mosque and Hippodrome, less than 15 minutes to the Ayasofia, Topkapi Palace, and the Basilica Cistern. We will return the next time we are in Istanbul and will definitely recommend to friends and family!
“To visit before you die!”
Location is wonderful and the staff is very responsive to any enquiry. The only setback is the size of the room, and also the fact that there is no fresh juice for the breakfeast. Otherwise, I would go back to this hotel or recommend it to my friends.
“"Not Impressed with the room"”
Outside hotel looks pretty as in picture on the website. However, our room is too small and not well maintained (sink cracked/ bathroom door has to be kept open by using the air dryer cord tied to the door, poor room lighting. No desk, just a cheap table with a stool, but it's too low and too small. Bed is too hard. Breakfast is ok, not much choice but the view is nice. The service is quite welcome and warm though. Walking distance to Sultanameh Tram line (10 minutes), but all streets in the Old City are of cobble stones that make it noisy and a bit difficult to pull luggage on top of slight uphill if you plan to use the tram line. Hotel also offers to order transport to airport and books tour service.
“Most helpful front-line staff!”
This was our second time in Istanbul and the first time in Artefes. We could not fault the location as it was close to all the main sights of the old historic city. The hotel front-line staff were possibly the friendliest we met (especially in comparison with our previous stay) and went out of their way to assist - nothing was too much trouble. Their English skills were an added bonus! The manager seemed to pre-empt needs and his advice was spot-on! The hotel itself is typical of Istanbul's old wooden houses. The rooms were comfortable and clean although somewhat tired. But it was fine for our needs as we only were in the hotel to sleep at night. The rooms have tea-coffee-making facilities which we didn't have in other hotels of similar standard in Turkey. We will certainly stay at the Artefes if visiting Turkey again and will recommend this hotel to family and friends, who are looking for hotels of similar value for price.
“Perfect Location”
the staff was very helpful despite missing a wake-up call or two, they provided good information, and arranged tours and pick-ups in a timely fashion. this hotal has an awesome location across the street from an authentic tea house. the roof deck provides excellent views of the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmara, and also the Asian side of Istanbul. you will only a few blocks from the sea, and the mosque, with all Sultanahmet sights within easy walking distance. if you want to do any cruises or ferries, take a cab from this hotel to the piers for 10 Lira (a little more than $5) for a quick 10 minute ride. the breakfast is decent, and late night drinks on the roof are awesome. there is a small store one block up the hill from the hotl corner where you cand buy wine, beer, and Raki (must try). bed is hard, tv is small, don't drink tap water, bring an alarm clock, and stylish walking shoes.
“Fantastic location”
Very friendly staff. Excellent location. Close to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grant Bazaar etc. Only negative is that the rooms have very thin walls and it can get very noisy.
“Great little jewel in Istanbul”
This is a nice little hotel in Istanbul, very close to all the major attractions in the old city but just far away from the tourist buzz. Close to some nice local restaurants and very helpful staff, knowledgeable about tours etc. Nice enjoyable stay, will visit again. Limited english tv channels though.
“Location, location, location”
You can't beat the location - a few blocks from Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia, easy walking to great restaurants, Topkapi Palace and Grand Bazaar! Breakfast very good on terrace with view of Blue Mosque. Rooms small and simple, but good air conditioner and hot shower. Had intermittent trouble with TV and WiFi, but why be in the room in this beautiful city. Great experience in their haman - a good introduction if you are nervous.
