“It was okay but a little expensive”

The hotel was okay and I was comfortable. Unfortunatly, for the price asked and the service provided, I was annoyed that everything extra had hidden charges. I had stayed at a few hotels this trip and found cheper hotels with better service and all extras included in the price. But overall, it was a pleasant stay and a very clean and comfortable hotel. I would prefer to find a hotel where all extra's are included and not be stung by hidden charges when checking out. It was a means to an end and I am not completely unhappy.

Getting there
Getting to and from the hotel was found in the hotels shuttle bus service, again at a cost. However, much cheaper and more convienent than taxi's.

“REMOTE LOCATION POOR MAINTENANCE”

EXCELLENT ROOM SERVICE (MEALS) ONE DAY, AND AVERAGE THE NEXT. POOR MAINTENANCE OF THE BATHROOM, SPECIALLY SHOWER. BEDS WERE CLEAN BUT WC COULD DEFF IMPROVE. AGAIN FOR HK STANDARDS ABOUT AVERAGE.

Area recommendations
SHOPPING ZHENG SHEN (BORDER WITH CHINA) BUT REQUIRES "PURCHASING OF SHORT TERM PASS" GREAT ADVENTURE IF YOU DON'T MIND THE ANNOYING SALES PEOPLE, WAITING IN DIFF PLACES TO GET THE BORDER PASS. (WE DID NOT, BUT WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT IF YOU HAVE LITTLE KIDS. IS A LONG DAY FOR THEM AND THERE ARE NOT MANY ACTIVITIES THEY CAN INTERACT. THE QUALITY IS OK BUT A LOT OF THE ELECTRONIC STUFF I SUSPECT IS QUALITY CONTROL "REJECTS". LADIES MARKET PROB THE BEST IN HK. LOVE THE "PEAK" GREAT VIEW. OVERALL FOOD IS RELATIVELY GOOD, (WE RATHER CHOOSE EXPENSIVE MEALS THAN EXPENSIVE ACCOMMODATION)
Events and shows
KUNG-FU CORNER. SUNDAY AROUND 2.00? HAD FREE EVENT ON KUNG-FU. GREAT TO WATCH LOCAL PARK.

“Good mid-range hotel”

This hotel was fine to stay in. It was clean, in a very quiet area and comfortable enough. The service wasn't great -it took a while to check in and out noone helped you with your bags or opeened the door for you or hailed you a cab. Not the end of the world, obviously, but different from service elsewhere. They also took a deposit up front in case you used the minibar or shuttle bus, which I thought was a bit annoying, particularly because I knew I wouldn't be using either of those things. All in all though it's certainly not the worst place I've stayed in in Hong Kong, but certainly not the best either.

“rather smelly.”

The hotel had some nice looking areas such as the resturants and the lobby but the corridors and our actual room smelt of damp. The room had a damp feeling although this went over time and the carpet was dirty. The staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was OK but for the price I would strongly recommend the nearby Hyatt which is brilliant.

Area recommendations
It is very near the metro which is great and a huge shopping mall which is also brilliant.

“Surprisingly pleased”

We got a corner room on the 14th floor. When we first walked in, we were all "wow"! The room is so spacious. It's much bigger than a regular hotel room in HK; more like what we are used to in the US. There is plenty of space for our luggage. The window sill can fit like 5 or 6 suite cases, leaving the floor space entirely open for my toddlers to run around. The double double beds are also a good size, like queen beds. They are movable, so together they can easily fit five adults. The bathroom is plain but not too run down. The staff is friendly, which is pretty much a required standard to meet given the competition in HK. There is free shuttle service to nearby train Shatinstation which connects to subway. We will want to stay in this hotel again, specifically in the room we stayed in. I am glad I chose this hotel. A much better option over a hotel in the more central areas for a family with 3 adults and 2 kids, yet still very close to shopping malls and restaurants, and less expensive.

Area recommendations
Every neighborhood in HK has its own characters. It doesn't take long to travel from one area to the next, from downtown to the outskirts. Go to the HK tourist website for well organized info.
When to go
October and November are the best months for us who don't like the humidity and hotness. These "fall" months are still very warm, but not hot or too humid. Summer and Spring months are very hot and wet (especially Spring months) with lots of rain and Mosquitos. Early in the calendar is too cold (watch out, even at the same therometer reading, it's colder there due to higher humidity).

“Reasonable place to stay”

The room is bright and very spacious. Room is clean and staff are helpful. We arrived at 9:00 P.M and was told the next shuttle bus would be there at 11:00 P.M. The service staff at the Regal kiosk in the airport instruct us how to take the bus which goes directly to the hotel in Sha Tin. Make sure you have enough cash for the ride 'cos there is no change. Fare is around H.K$23.50 . A young couple in the bus stop told us when to get off in our stop. Bus stop is right in front of hotel and very convenient . We took the 6:00 a.m bus to the airport on our return to Toronto. The only draw back is it is too far to go to the city.

Area recommendations
TSIM SHA TSUI Lots to see such as Ocean Terminal, Peninsula Hotel, Nathan Road with stores. Restaurants all around you. Shopping for name brand and local items is everywhere. Hong Kong is an exciting place to be . Easy and convenient location for everything.

“Good neighorhood for exercise”

Although this hotel is a bit far from the main shopping area (s.a. women's street), it only takes 25 minutes by bus or 15 minutes by train. It's next to a river where you can run/walk and a park where you can exercise and enjoy the clean air. We like the quiet environment of the hotel, we stayed in other town hotels that were very noisy. Shatin is a town by itself, you can find almost everything you need within a few mintues walk. Also on the bus line that can bring you to different locations. Hotel provided shuttle to the airport, costs HK$130 per person, a regular taxi will cost around HK $250, so if you have 2 or more people in your group, consider taxi.

“Sha Tin”

Seems to be a very popular place for overnight for tour groups but not a problem except if you have to check in or out with them. This is a very nice probably 4 star hotel but but have to take the metro system to get to Sha Tin and the hotel is about a mile away. Hotel has a shuttle, or taxi is cheap. Also bus 284 has stops outside of hotel and mall with metro station but would have to ask direction to fine first time. You can also take bus 49x ?directly to Hong Kong airport. There is also a bus from airport to Sha Tin. Didnt see any western food places around the hotel and didn't eatat hotel except for the Moon River? cafe in the same building 1st floor for breakfast but wasn't western. The mall probably has a McDonalds but never looked for it. Sha tin seem to be nice place. Hotel has excellent gym, not sure I looked at the swimming pool. Price good compared to Hong Kong. Staff always helpful and friendly

“You pay for what you get”

We choose this hotel as the other one in the same area was fully booked. This hotel was about 50% cheaper so we thought we give it a try. We thought we go for something better than usual so we booked a deluxe twin room which should have two double beds. We were given a twin room with two singles so I had to go back to reception and asks for a change. The receptionist said that was the deluxe room and that's how it comes but after a bit of nagging and showing her the itinerary, we got our double. Upon arrival to our room, the room was dirty and the decor was old and the bathroom was dark. I didn't want to make a fuss as it was a cheap hotel but I don't think I will be going back.

“OK, but be careful with the Internet service”

I was in HK for a conference held in the close Chinise University. The hotel is very good from many points of view, and the location was OK for me because I could reach various places in HK by the cheap metro (a metro station is 600-700 meters far from the hotel). The only black point (and when I say black I mean dark) has been the Internet service. They tell you that the maximum charge per day is 180HK$ (around 18 EUR), depending on your actual connection time, but then short connections lasting a few minutes already get very close to the maximum cost. This is not reasonable. So, I ended paying 50 EUR for 5 to 10 minutes of connection over 4 days.
