"Beautiful character hotel with terrific amenities "
One of the very best hotel experiences I've ever had. Lots of character in the building, great variety of spaces (lounge, library, patio, lawn), fascinating indoor/outdoor pool. Restaurant was creative and excellent value. Some pleasing and surprising extras - free paper and minibar.

"Comfortable bed, good shower and a great breakfast"
Silverton is a quiet, pretty village 15 to 20 minutes along (mostly) country lanes outside of Exeter. A great place to stay if you want somewhere peaceful. The room was modern, spacious & spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed & nice bed linen and a great shower. We would stay here again.

"Pleasant stay"
I had to stay in Exeter an extra night and I booked the same day, the hotel has great surrounding and good facilities. the room are clean and simple a little on the small side. Overlooking the dining room causes a bit of disturbance with light in the night. ROOM SERVICE very good. Staff at reception helpful and friendly but the nicest was the staff at breakfast. good stay

"Not bad at all - but wouldn't pay top whack"
I needed a single room for a Saturday night, and £45 for an ensuite with breakfast was a very fair price. My room was fine, The old place is a bit shabby, but I've paid more for worse and the hotel is right next to Exeter St David's railway station. There was a nice big towel - and tea/coffee/biscuits - but if there was shower gel I couldn't find it. The cooked breakfast is superb. Not a gut-busting buffet, but a perfectly cooked English breakfast to set you up for the day. One little warning. Because it's relatively large, it does seem to get some big parties, sometimes the sort of groups who some hotels would turn away. On a previous visit, we have terrible memories of being kept awake by a bunch of rugby players, who were not only noisy, rude and moronic but also so sure of themselves - in that smug rugger chap sort of way - that even while keeping my family awake at 3am, they were still certain that we should be finding them rather charming and brilliant. This time, a crowd of geezers thundered down the corridor at about 2.30am, but, not being rugby players, they settled for a couple of minutes of banter and then packed it in. Well done fellas. Of course, noisy guests can upset you anywhere, but if you have a family or you really need your kip, it might be worth checking with the hotel if they can guarantee you a quiet room for weekend bookings. Overall though, so long as the price is right - and especially if you want a station hotel - I'd recommend it.
