I rate this hotel a 7 out of 10

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Pros: location, staff
Excellent location BUT...very old hotel, not-at-all modern, NO AC! bed sheets used were too short for our bed so our heads were almost directly on the mattress! Staff was very nice. You have to call down to front desk for all but the very basic amenities (have to call for: washclothes! toothbrush, shoeshine kit etc...)

Over priced and underwhelming

Posted 30-Jul-2014
Pros: It has a very old fashioned feel about the place.
Cons: Customer care, room size, bathroom size, shower facilities, air conditioning.
Location: Very close to Waverley Station.
The problem with The George hotel is they really don't have any interest in customer care or service. We stayed during the Edinburgh Fringe and the Commonwealth Games so the George could charge what they liked and not worry about customer satisfaction. In fact, we advised them that we would be checking in late and so they took the opportunity to give our room away, leaving us no choice but to accept a substandard room with no bed for our young son. They eventually found a camp bed for him and he finally got to bed at 1 am. If you are thinking of staying at the George, my advice would be, only as a last resort.

Standard Room - Very Variable

Posted 21-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: They clearly have at least 2 levels of quality of standard rooms - be honest drop the price of the room with a window that is 7 feet from the ground
Location: Everything in Edinburgh
The location was superb. This was booked 5 months in advance - arrived at 10.00; left our bags but checked in at 17.00 - only room left was not big enough to swing a haggis, They could not move us.

Short Break At The George Hotel.

Posted 18-Jul-2014
Pros: Cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff.
Location: For me, it was an ideal location, with everything I needed close at hand.
Spent three nights at the George Hotel, for my first visit to Edinburgh. The hotel, public areas and my room were all very good indeed. From reception, waitresses, bar staff etc. all were polite, friendly and very helpful. If I am fortunate enough to return to Edinburgh, I will certainly use the George again.

Great setting, slightly let down.

Posted 15-Jul-2014
The hotel is fairly grand and well located. The staff were mostly polite, friendly and helpful; although one or two forgot about service with a smile. Our room was clean and well presented. Although, our deluxe double bed was two singles pushed together; they kept moving apart which was very irritating. Overall the food was good, but the coffee with breakfast was not of great quality. Generally it was pleasant but slightly let down by a couple of minor things.

Great hotel, great location!

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Cons: Noisy at night (nightclubs across the st) and church bells ring throughout the day (sometimes every 15 minutes) if your room is front facing.
Awesome stay here, hotel is spacious and clean in a great location (George Street, City Centre). As it is on one of the main streets, it was a little noisy at night. Hotel staff was excellent and very accommodating. Hotel is close enough to walk to all main attractions and access transport, but far enough to not have to listen to bagpipes 24/7 outside your window, as is the case with most hotels on Princes Street. Would definitely stay here again!

Superb location, mostly cordial attentive staff

Posted 22-Jun-2014
Pros: Location, friendly and attentive staff, cleanliness
Cons: Reliable Internet connection; website notice that Internet is free for only one hour every 4 hours; earlier breakfast access when needed
We spent five nights at this hotel and had a very good experience overall. The two exceptions were the maƮtre d' at breakfast, who refused to give me access to coffee or any food whatsoever 10 minutes before the official start of breakfast service in spite of my having to leave for a meeting, and unsatisfactory access to the Internet, which the staff was unable to correct in spite of their strong efforts. The hotel is beautifully located, comfortable, and has an excellent breakfast.

George Hotel Edinburgh

Posted 20-Jun-2014
Pros: good position shame about the service
Cons: As above.
Location: Good central location - most sites within walking distance
Room not ready at check in time -front desk disinterested. Ignored in the bar - eventually managed to order a pot of tea in the bar which took a long time to arrive and was undrinkable when it did. The window in our room was nailed shut making it uncomfortable on a hot and stuffy night. television did not work although this was fixed. Had to queue for breakfast despite going at the time recommended on the information in the room. Breakfast bar not replenished. Strong impression is that this hotel is geared for tour groups / business travelers - and individual guests are ignored. The one exception was the concierge who was helpful.
