The hotel 's location is excellent for first timer

Posted 22-Apr-2014
Cons: Change the carpets on the hallways leading to the stairs
Location: Excellent location.Near the Royal mile, a visit to the castle, Holyrood castle , a climb up the Holyrood park. St. Giles cathedral. Shopping and more
Edinburgh is just out of this world with so much to do. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was beautiful and extremely quiet and peaceful. The only downside is the carpet in the corridor leading to the room and l did not like that one had to go down what seemed like a basement to get to the room. Having said this though, the room was clean and quiet beautiful. The staff were friendly and happy to give direction to the city. Our stay in Edinburgh was fantastic despite being ill. I intend to go back and will probably stay at The George's.

Edinburgh weekend 11th to 14th April 2014

Posted 21-Apr-2014
Pros: Very friendly attentive staff, fabulous food in restaurant (not cheap, but worth it) - nice main bar with good entertainment.
Cons: Think a separate bar for residents would be an advantage, as it is sometimes difficult to get a seat in the very busy public bar.
Location: Edinburgh is a fabulous city for a long weekend - with many attractions, Holyrood, Dynamic Earth, Royal Yacht,. Castle, Royal Mile, and many more.
Hotel position very convenient - close to all attractions and amenities. There was a mix up regarding the conditions of our booking - we clearly had booked "breakfast included" as shown on our confirmation from Expedia - however the hotel had the booking down as "room only". They then accepted a copy of our itinerary as proof that breakfast was included (proving that you should always take the necessary paperwork with you). When we checked out, they tried to charge us £33 per day for breakfast (a total of £99) - we then had to insist again that breakfast was included, and prove it to them yet again, before they removed it from the bill.

Spotless with a warm welcome

Posted 17-Apr-2014
Pros: The location, cleanliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Cons: Hard to say really, maybe bigger TV's in the rooms and a larger selection of hot beverages in the rooms?
Location: The location is right in the heart of the city and everything is close by. Edinburgh castle, HM Britannia 15 mins by bus.
Arrived at 10am to be told we had been given a room upgrade for nothing which was warmly welcomed. Reception staff and concierge very accommodating and we left our luggage with them whilst we went out to explore the city which wasn't a problem. Room was spotlessly clean, however the bed was way to soft for our liking. We slept reasonably well albeit we were at the front of the hotel and by 6am in the morning it got very noisy outside with the traffic going past the window. Breakfast is treated with military precision, as you arrive the staff talk to one another through personal radios and you are greeted by someone who takes you to your table, there isn't anything more you could want for on the menu, full English (of is it Scottish?), cereals, fruit, cold buffet etc. The waiters and waitresses go about their business with beaming smiles and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Honeymoon

Posted 08-Apr-2014
Pros: Perfect location right in the heart of Edinburgh the sights, shops bars and restaurants, everything within walking distance. The cleanliness and staf.
Location: Fantastic shops all right outside the hotel, restaurants bars and cocktails bars line the street and of course the castle. I would recommend Gusto.
Fantastic hotel, the staff could not do enough for you. When they found out it was our honeymoon they up-graded our room and scattered petals on the bed and left chocolates for us. The staff were all so very friendly and helpful.

Avoid room 096!

Posted 26-Mar-2014
Pros: Friendly and efficient staff, responsive management team and a hotel full of character that should be cherished
Cons: Breakfast routine to avoid queueing. The use of rooms above the ballroom when there is a function taking place.
Location: Lots. Lovely position in a beautiful city.
The hotel has lots of character and I can't stress enough that the staff were fantastic however, the rooms above the ballroom should only be used by guests attending the function of the night or not used at all. I experienced distress because this did not occur for us. I must say that the hotel manager rectified this situation appropriately. My husband was not happy with the queues at breakfast.
