Nice hotel close to the Waverly Train Station.

Posted 14-Sep-2014
Pros: The location.
Location: It is on Princes Street, a very busy thoroughfare. It is very close to the train station, to Princes Street Gardens and to the National Gallery.
It was a nice, clean room with a fabulous view. Unfortunately, the view came with a price. It was very noisy.

OK hotel - pity about the building site next door

Posted 12-Sep-2014
The hotel itself is a slightly ageing hotel in a great location. Room was clean, comfortably and well sized and staff were always pleasant and friendly. Unfortunately there is an building site just behind the hotel which was still undergoing demolition. I was there for work for 1 night, and while I expected an earlyish start from the site next door I was thoroughly unimpressed when it kicked off at 5.30am and kept up until 7 before going quiet for a while. While I know the hotel is not responsible for this, it certainly put a damper on the visit.

Still love this place after 30 years

Posted 08-Sep-2014
Pros: Its character and location.
Cons: Staff needs to warn guests that you'll be chraged £25 for Internet use. As it is, they just give you the password and only later do you realiza the ch
Location: All of Edinburgh, New Town and Old Town, at your feet.
Uneven floors, British gentility, but the bathrooms have been modernized since my last stay, 30 years ago.

Hotel reservations unhelpful

Posted 07-Sep-2014
Somehow managed to have my room double booked through expedia. Ended up paying for 2 rooms, hotel reservations would not even offer discount. NO elevator to checkin. Room overlooked ugly construction site, at which work started before 0700. Location is the only plus. Won't be back!

Pros: It's location.
Cons: It delivers what it promises.
Location: It's in the heart of Edinburgh and a great location for a three day visit to the city.
Enjoyed the stay. Convenient location and comfortable room.

Some problems with hotel

Posted 22-Aug-2014
Pros: Convenient location.
Cons: See above.
Location: Edinburgh is a fascinating city.
Too many stairs to reach reception with heavy baggage before you reach a lift to upper floors. Inadequate lighting in Breakfast room on a grey day. Impossible to read newspaper. Mentioned this to staff who were unable to raise lighting level which was limited to side lights. Items missing from Breakfast buffet eg tomatoes and milk. Coffee stale and acrid.. Rooms very small.

old waverly

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: Great Location, good clean rooms (princes street) noisy as window had to be kept open as it was warm. Lift absolutely useless , small & slow.
we were visiting edinburgh to see the tatoo and therefore it was a busy time to eat out shop etc. The hotel is very central but as we had a car and one of our party had difficulty walking wished to drop off outside the hotel and this is not possible as there is no parking at all and this wasn't made clear when we were booking also the reception is not on the ground floor and can only be accessed by quite a few stairs. When this was brought to the receptionists attention she was quite rude in her manner , however all other staff during our stay were very nice.

Convenient hotel for most attractions.

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Food choice was very good and was cooked and presented well.
Cons: There were no drawers in our room in which to store clothes. Wi fi should be free.
Location: Handy location for visiting the Fringe Festival, Walter Scott monument, museums, art galleries etc.
It is in the centre of town which leaves itself open to noise at night from traffic and revellers during the fringe festival.

Great position

Posted 03-Aug-2014
Pros: reasonable bar prices, good breakfast selection and well cooked
Cons: Perhaps net curtains on windows that face onto the streets/buildings
Very helpful staff, allowed to drop bags early, in the heart of Edinburgh, everywhere easily accessible, on top of buses, trains and trams
