Wonderful distance to train station

Posted 22-Dec-2014
Cons: Could do with free wifi
Really lovely hotel, close to the train station and near to the airport bus stop, so handy to get to straight from the airport. Lovely staff, so friendly and welcoming. The only negative was that I couldn't find the lift to the reception so had to lug some rather heavy bags upstairs but the staff were really helpful even though it was a rather late check in!

Edinburgh christmas

Posted 21-Dec-2014
Pros: Staff pleasant and polite and extremely helpful
Cons: Nothing at all it is a perfect place to explore edinburgh
Location: We went for the lights and Christmas markets both Scottish and continental. The shopping is great got loads of Christmas presents
I booked a double room with Expedia, unfortunately I hadn't noticed that they gave me a junior double ie a large cupboard on complaining to Waverley staff they were more than helpful and moved us to a lovely room on the from as this was for a 60th birthday. Had a fabulous time

nice comfortable hotel, excellent locaction

Posted 15-Dec-2014
Pros: warm clean rooms, good food and helpful staff
Cons: security!
Location: This hotel is central for busses, trains sightseeing and shopping
enjoyable stay spoiled only that we left an electrical item in the room when we checked out. In spite of a telephone call within 12 hrs to the hotel it had not been handed in, the item was certainly in the room the morning we left and had never been taken from the room by us.

Central locaton

Posted 13-Dec-2014
Pros: Central location
This our fourth stay at the Old Waverley and couldn't fault it. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. Lounge was cosy and convenient for a nightcap after day's shopping. Will definitely be back.

Lovely warm hotel, perfect location

Posted 11-Dec-2014
We had a little family getaway to Edinburgh for the Christmas market. We chose the Old Waverly Hotel for location and price and weren't disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room clean and the maid left us extra coffee and shortbread which was really nice. The only thing that takes anything away from the experience is that there is only one very small lift in the hotel. There is a large carpeted staircase so we usually took the lift up and the stairs down. We had a lovely time and look forward to staying there again.

Perfect location to overview the Christmas market

Posted 01-Dec-2014
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Only 1 small lift and the wait could be long especially if it's busy
Location: Castle, royal mile, shopping, Christmas markets, pubs and restaurants
Staff could not friendlier. Hotel was busy but they took time to deal with us without rushing. Being able to leave our bags both before check in and after check out, to allow us to spend time around the shops and markets was great. I left my phone in the room when I checked out in error, thank you to the trustful maid it was handed into reception and I got it back when I went back to collect my luggage. Hotel is old, but with lots of character and best of all was spotlessly clean. The bar overlooking princes street gardens was great to watch all the goings on and see the views from a higher position. Only 2 little negatives, only stairs to access reception from the street, so aunt with bad knees struggled, however a poter will help with your bags and not too many stairs and only 1small lift to service the 100's of rooms over numerous floors. But neither of these would stop me recommending to there or returning. Great stay.

Great location/old hotel

Posted 11-Nov-2014
Pros: Convenience mostly.
Cons: It's not handicap accessible from what I could tell.
Location: GREAT
Great hotel for the money right in the center of Edinburgh. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The only thing is the goofy Internet password that literally I had to type in every time I came back to my laptop. That was annoying.

Gunstig gelegen hotel

Posted 08-Nov-2014

A lovely Hotel full of Character and wormth

Posted 03-Nov-2014
Pros: An excellent location for exploring Edinburgh.
Cons: Change the menu from day to day, and perhaps a little more choice.
Location: All attractions within the center are within walking distance, and there is a bus on Princes St which goes to the Royal Yacht Britannia
This is a lovely building, full of character and very homely. Inside every room I saw was nicely decorated. We booked a double and were given a lovely room on the fouth floor overlooking Princes Street. The room was clean and comfortable, and the window curtains and swags were high quality which added character to the room. The bathroom had nicely tiled floor and walls, with marble vanity top and bath panel. Breakfast was a buffet with a full range for the cooked option, including Haggis if you wanted it. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings. It was ok but nothing special, and has a very limited choice which isn't changed from day to day. Slightly expensive; but perhaps not for the center of Edinburgh.
