Perfect hotel room, good service, pleasant staff. The hotel is not exactly central, but it's five minutes from a subway station that is only one or at most two stops from all the main tourist attractions. And there's an advantage to being in a relative quiet location across the street from a large park.
The only negative is that the hotel provides no à la carte breakfast options. A $25 breakfast buffet, no matter how elegant, is not what you want when your idea of breakfast is a cup of coffee and a roll. But there is a restaurant up the street where you can get a cup of coffee and a croissant.

We stayed here in October 2014; the rooms are very reasonable, offset by expensive food/drink ($9.00 beer!). However we feel this is by far the best option in St. Petersburg. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Hermitage. The hotel has a swanky feel; the concierge is awesome (in fact, we were spoiled by this--not an easy find in other hotels at this price range!). The rooms are clean, spacious, and have heated bathroom floors (absolutely luxurious!). Best of all, the spa area is out-of-this-world (it was included in our room package)--it's like the World's Fair of spas--so many to choose from. We spent several evenings just indulging in them. There are also exercise classes (yoga, etc.). We booked our entire stay effortlessly online, and then returned after a week of travels and decided we couldn't beat this hotel so ended up staying here again. Highly recommended.

Just spent five nights at the hotel.
The room was spacious and quiet with excellent wifi connections
The food in the bar area was excellent- especially the rib eye steak and the grilled salmon
The concierge service from the two ladies was first class and the drivers provided real professionals.
The gym could do with upgrading with more equipment

When checking in, we were told that there had been an issue with their computer system and they didn't have the room we had booked. They said they would put us in a nicer room, but wanted to know if it was ok if we moved to our booked room the next day. We told them we didn't want to have to change rooms and they said ok and let us stay in the better room for the complete stay of 3 days. Room was extremely nice and clean. Staff was extremely helpful with any questions we had and went out of their way to find out information that they didn't know when we initially asked. Hotel has an electronic money exchange machine in the lobby which I highly recommend using if you need to exchange currency. Just a note, the hallway lighting was a little dark which I personally didn't care for, but I think it is supposed to part of the decor. Hotel is within walking distance to Red Square. I would recommend this hotel. I also recommend the double decker tour buses. The price is good and you can get off and on the bus on it's route as much as you like for two days. You can get off and walk around and then go back to any stop on the route and get back on the bus. You get headphones and the tour guide is in multiple languages. You can purchase your tickets anywhere you see the bus. We purchased ours at Red Square.

I was born in Moscow and lived there for thirty years. So, trust me, I have something to say about this city. Especially, to those who are traveling to Russia's capital for the first time. If you can allow that kind of treatment for yourself, the price for this hotel, usually not chip - stay at the hotel "Metropol" where "history will whisper into your ears." Shalyapin and Chekhov, Tchaikovsky and Dyagilev, Stravinsky and Kandinsky among other poets, artists and composers of Russian 20th century "Silver Age" of Art, they all loved this hotel. Uniqly and lavishly restored"Metropol" is a unic in history and architecture. Of course, there are ritz-karltons, sheratons, hyatts and other overexpansive and faceless chain-hotels. But "Metropol" is The One and The Only.
