Wonderful experience in this hotel located in a historical building, centrally located (doesn't get any more central), and with a long history of being a reputable establishment. If you like modern, ultra sleek hotel, then this place is not for you. If you want to soak up in history, then this is your place. The lobby is phenomenal and simply doesn't get any better. The rooms are traditional as would be expected to be consistent with the hotel style. The location is very central, yet I was relieved to find out that there is no noise from the outside. Indeed, my room was pleasantly quiet while the light show was going on in front of the Bolshoi theatre with hundreds of people on the Teatralnaya square.

As a frequent traveler I am often not particularly overwhelmed by hotels around the world, so it was nice to stay in the National, a particularly beautiful old hotel located facing the Kremlin and Red Square. I was impressed enough that we changed flights and stayed an extra day so that we could take our time in Moscow. The staff were very helpful, all spoke English and were very professional and accommodating. I had a business meeting in the lounge with clients and it was certainly a good setting for that type of thing. Built in 1903 its a really nice change to find a hotel that's not competing to be the "most ultra-modern" hotel and if you like history, wander around the 2nd floor and you'll see a gallery of the famous people who've stayed there over the past 100 years. Quite impressive. Moscow is not an easy place to drive around (just take a taxi, the traffic is among the most challenging anyplace in the world) so staying close to your place of interest is a big plus and you would be hard pressed to find a better central location than Red Square. Public transport literally outside your doorstep if you're game to take the metro also.
Recently I ventured on a solo trip to Moscow, having no idea about the city and hotels - I relied on the Novotel brand name and Expedia reviews to make my selection. I must say, I was really surprised by the quality of this hotel. Top notch design, great bar and dining areas plus the rooms were excellent.
For the money I paid - I couldn’t have asked for anything else, the location - is a bit further out especially if you are flying into Domodedovo, I took a cab from the airport to the hotel, costed me about 1400 ru however, the journey was very comfortable. On my way back, I took a cab for 400 ru to the Aero Express train station - 40 mins to the airport and very modern.
During my stay at Novotel, the staff was very helpful and spoke good English and best of all always willing to help. I would like to highlight one staff member Lera - who always took out the time from her busy schedule to help me whenever I wanted directions or suggestions on what to do.
I definitely, recommend this hotel - being in the new part of the city, you will see Moscow in a completely different light.
