Needs work

Posted 11-Sep-2014
Location: Was close to the train and highways so easy to go places
When I arrived I was told that the hotel had been taken over by a new company and they were carrying out renovations. When I went into my room I did not have to use the card to swipe the outside door so anybody could have walked into the hallway. Whenever the outside door was opened my room door rattled. I tried to use the phone to make a local call but it would not work, I called the front desk twice and was told they would take care of it but still would not work. I tried to use the TV remote to change channels but could only get about 1/2 of them to work. When I woke up and went to have a shower found that I was sharing the bathroom with 3 small spiders as well.

Felt like a bad motel

Posted 09-Sep-2014
This place is very shabby and I've stayed in some very marginal places all over the world over the years. The room was clean, but the furniture was from 1950 or so. From the lobby I crossed parking lot, passed a sleeping security guard and some (friendly) drunks, and climbed a shabby old stairway to my room. It's on Lake Shore Drive and the lake is right there but not visible from the room. It's apparently undergoing renovation, though. Convenient to the U of Chicago. It should have been cheap!

30 minute walk from Museum of Science

Posted 06-Sep-2014
My stay was quiet. The hotel is older. The hotel room didn't have a fridge or microwave. The only updates were the bathroom and TV which helped. They are obviously updating hotel. I went to third floor and they new carpet, paint, and doors in the hallway.

Nice pool, and empty. Room Damp and smelly.

Posted 31-Aug-2014
Pros: the empty large pool
Cons: the dampness
Location: in walking distance of nice part of Hyde Park
The pool was very nice, and the weather very humid. The room was somewhat damp and smelly. The breakfast awful, the bar dismal. I moved to an airbnb apt in Hyde park after one night. And I am 61 years old.

It is a good choice to visit Chicago

Posted 23-Aug-2014
Pros: Good location. The room is clean.
Cons: WIFI is terrible. It is better to provide refrigerator and microwave.
The room is clean. Good location. But the wifi is terrible, it will be disconnected every several minutes. No refrigerator no microwave no breakfast.

Not what I was expecting

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Room itself was alright. Clean and nice. Our TV had HORRIBLE reception. Some channels you couldn't even make out. They are doing an insane amount of construction on the upper level and from 5:00 am forward we were woken up on and off by tools, walking, banging around, etc. People walking around at all hours of the night, some sketchy. Free parking but the spots are limited and tiny. Enter the rooms from the outside. Reminded me of a motel more then anything.

Nice hotel - Good place to stay

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Hotel room was newly decorated, clean, comfortable. Hotel had shuttle to John Hancock and was close to where we wanted dropped off. Lots of good places to eat within walking distance. Food in the hotel restaurant was very good. We had the breakfast buffet and a dinner in the evening. There were six in our party and everyone was satisfied with the food choices. Food was excellent. I recommend this hotel for the dollar value. Free parking is also an added plus.

Hotel was rundown and I was booked into a smoking room when I requested a non smoking room. Walls were thin and I could hear the conversations in the room upstairs. I was charged $25 for incidentals but I couldn't figure out what that could be for. I will never stay there again.

Very old run down...use to be an old ramada inn....first room was not even cleaned, beds not made. Had trouble getting into second room because door had been painted and was badly sticking. Smelled run down. They should tear it down and rebuild because it is on a prime piece of land on Lake Michigan and super convenient for Chicago. Safe area.

Next to Lake Michigan

Posted 08-Aug-2014
Pros: It was right next to Lake Michigan and the bed was comfortable.
Cons: Ensuring everything is in working order. Also somehow get noise installation.
Location: We were in town for a music festival in downtown Chicago. Bus stops and cabs were near by to get us there.
Hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was just at average. It was clean and the bed was comfortable however it was a bit noisy as the room was right next to the parking. The remote for the TV was also not functioning. It was fine for a 1 night stay where we were only there to sleep but would probably like a nicer hotel for a stay any longer.
