Nice surprise!

Posted 19-Apr-2014
Cons: I much prefer a continental breakfast over ordering in the hotel restaurant.
Location: We were only there overnight before visiting the University of Chicago. It's proximity to the University was why we chose it!
Based on our room rate, I was expecting kind of a run-down hotel with a bare-bones room. That was not the case. The room was lovely and everything about our stay was satisfying.

Good location

The hotel is older, but perfectly adequate. Rooms were comfortable and very clean. And the location was easy for navigating around the part of Chicago we visited.

Not a hotel, but right on the shore

Posted 19-Mar-2014
Pros: fast internet - but constantly required me to re-login which was annoying.
#1 - this is not a hotel, it is a pumped up motel #2 - needs some serious redecorating - peeling paint, old carpet, loud heating units Driving past this place, we weren't sure we had gone to the right place. This is basically a glorified motel that doesn't deserve the hotel moniker. check in was painless, but the room conditions were frightening considering the price and condition. Would not recommend. Walls were thin, doors rattled, and I could hear the guy next door watching TV or something at 1am.

Nice view, ok amenities, lacking some bascis

Posted 18-Mar-2014
Pros: View of the lake, location, quiet.
Cons: Safety features (doors didn't lock), courtesy and speed of staff (it took forever just to check in), cleanliness (dirty towels and floors).
Location: Not too far from downtown. Walks on beach possible in nice weather. University and cafe close by.
The view of lake Michigan, first off, was amazing, and the location is not bad (not too far from the downtown). However, the towels and floors had hair on them, we did not have enough tissues in the boxes, and the electrical outlets did not all work. The hotel staff was very slow to get us checked in, but friendly. The shuttle driver was pretty rude and acted like we were bothering him by using the shuttle. The area was a bit sketchy. The door to our building did not close completely, which was a bit unsafe (our room door locked, of course). There is a nice cafe directly next to the hotel with some awesome pies and coffee, although they offered only an expensive brunch option for breakfast. It was nice and quiet, considering we were located directly next to the Lakeshore Drive.

Needs updated

Posted 17-Mar-2014
Pros: Gabby at the front desk was great. Very helpful and sympathetic as my daughter was not feeling well when we first got there.
Cons: Needs to be updated
Location: Nice quiet area. The Lake Shore Café is two buildings over and is a great restaurant. Shedd Aquarium is five miles away.
Arriving at the hotel you can see that its an older building and needs work done on it. Inside & out. Walking down the hallway on the 4th floor the pop & ice machine were slanted in towards each other like they were going to fall through the floor. Standing in the hallway in front of our door we could hear other guests tv and radio as if we were in their room. I hoped it wasn't a sign of what was to come that night. It was. At midnight the guests that were in the corner room woke us up. It was as if they were in the room with us. I hoped that they were just getting back from somewhere and would settle down. Not the case. We were up with them until about 2am. I didn't complain as there wasn't another room available for us to move to. The hotel was fully booked. Just a heads up for anyone thinking they may want to stay here. The walls & doors are paper thin. Our bathroom flooring was all broken & cracked behind the toilet. There is a huge crack in the wall inside the closet. The carpeting all needs to be re-done and rooms need paint jobs. I'm aware that the hotel is in the process of being updated. I just was surprised at how run down it actually was for the cost that we paid for our room.

Not what I thought

Posted 17-Mar-2014
Pros: However, the receptionist at the lobby was very polite and the beds were comfortable.
Very disappointing for a hotel that has been rated 3 stars. The exterior of this hotel is in shambles and looked untidy; not a good first impression. To get to the lobby you have to walk outside which isn't pleasing in winter weather. The bus shuttle service is very limiting and stops quite early and this hotel is not as close to downtown as one would think. The room I stayed in was decent but not the best. The shower squeaked when turned on, the toilet was odd and had to be flushed twice to do its job, the Wi-Fi connection didn't work. Although the beds were comfortable, I was very skeptical to lay down due to flashbacks of the untidy exterior of the hotel. Who knows what the cleaning service is like? Not the best experience and would probably not return..

Will stay again!!

Posted 22-Feb-2014
Pros: Good location. Room was clean, although a bit worn. Asked for a ground floor room near the parking lot. Was able to park right outside our door.
Cons: Would have liked a fridg and microwave in the room. Walks and parking lot could have been shoveled better.
Location: We were there for the Chicago International Dog Show. Hotel was very convenient to the McCormick Center, shopping and restaurants.
Over all pleased with this hotel, the location, the staff and the restaurants in the area.
