Great Stay!

Posted 07-Sep-2014
Pros: Setting, Service, Cleanliness, Golf Courses, Health Club
Cons: Nothing in particular - all seemed good.
Location: Location is superb. Set in 2,000 acres with three championship golf courses and views of the Welsh hills all around.
We recently fulfilled one of our 'must do's' by staying for a long weekend at the Celtic Manor. This is something we have been looking to do for quite some time, and when we finally got there, it certainly didn't disappoint. Beautiful Hotel, nice rooms and all very clean. The staff throughout the Hotel were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. We spent a whole day walking around the grounds and the three championship golf courses, and experienced the three clubhouses (there is one per course). Good choice of restaurants, so for our 'special' meal we chose Le Patio - a french bistro type restaurant. Had a great meal with a good bottle of wine and experienced excellent service from a very professional waiter. Health Club and swimming pool were very good as well - good way of working off the plentiful buffet breakfast! Disappointed when we had to leave - will certainly be going back.

Pros: nothing
Cons: Rooms and service
Location: location good near to Cardiff
Location OK, Staff un-friendly and dismissive. Hotel room poor for a 5 star resort, bed very poor with 'springs' of mattress felt through bed sheets. Bathroom silicone/grout around the tiles missing and not sealed. Room generally not very clean. Breakfast - staff dismissive and un approachable. Quality of breakfast OK - had better at other hotels

A very large, impressive hotel.

Posted 01-Sep-2014
Pros: The spa, the scale, the design, the staff.
Cons: There were cigarette butts (from previous guests) left on the balcony. Sorry, but that's good enough for a five star hotel.
Location: Very well connected to main roads.
Very nice staff and excellent facilities. I went with my wife as a birthday treat and had a very nice time. The spa is to be recommended.

Great hotel with fantastic views

Posted 10-Aug-2014
Pros: There was nothing not to like.
Location: We used it as a base for going to the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. This hotel has everything you need for things to do.
The room was a really good size a very comfortable, the staff were very helpful and efficient. If you play golf or just want to relax in a spa or go for a swim they have everything you need.

Ask for a room overlooking the Golf Course

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Better signage for the parking facilities.
My husband and I stayed here on the recommendation of friends. We went there for a 2 night quiet short break. It was anything but. We had loud music from the outside of the hotel, which I was told was from the singer who was there every night and would finish at 11pm. I asked to be moved to a quieter room, but at this point the music stopped. We were told that we would be moved the following night and this would have been arranged for us on our return from a day out. When we returned this had not been done, but a very helpfull young man did arrange this for us. We were moved to the front of the hotel overlooking the M4 and we now had the noise of the traffic. I went down to reception and spoke to the same young man who was more than helpful and he upgraded us to a room overlooking the golf course. If you stay at the Celtic Manor ask for a room overlooking the golf course if you want quiet.

Great hotel, but terrible air con

Posted 29-Jul-2014
Pros: Golf, facilities, food
Cons: Air con - not 5* (or even 2*) standard
Hotel, food and facilities are excellent. However, it was hot (28 C) and the air con in room and restaurant proved woeful, making both very very uncomfortable. Go on a cooler day!
