“Very Nice Relaxing Hotel”

The hotel is very close to the volcano and has an amazing view. Staff is extremely nice and the hotel is well maintained. Perfect place for a romantic relaxing getaway in the country side.

“"Kept expecting more"”

This hotel is nestled in front of the beautiful Arenal Volcano. The room was beautiful and very romantic. The front desk was awesome because check in time was 2:00 pm and we arrived 12:00 pm and they allowed us to settle in our room with no additional charge. The gentleman was Great!! Very helpful with questions on tours and anything they offered in the town. The one service we did not like and was horrible was the wait staff in the restaurant. No one there seemed happy to be there and the food was not that great. Yes you are given free breakfast, but the staff was not very friendly and unhappy. They do not live by Costa Rica's saying "PURA VIDA". We ate there for dinner and the plates were not cheap and when we asked to have yuca instead of veggies with our dinner the waiter let me know that he would need to discuss it with the chef... Honestly we paid between $15-$17 a plate for fish and chicken and that should have been a YES since Yuca is grown and they have it in their kitchen... They did not come and check on us from time to time and the food was not the great. That is the only thing that did not sit well with us at Las Lomas del Volcan. We stayed at the Hotel El Silencio Del Campo in La Fortuna and they had "Excellent Service" all the way around to the housekeeping. I wish we had never left them..

Getting around
Make sure that you book a car on the internet prior to arriving in Costa RIca. You will need to make sure that you take the additional insurance due to it being mandatory in Costa Rica. The reason we state this is because, if you arrive and want a vehicle right away they will give you a higher price.. We had this happen with Alamo in La Fortuna, Costa Rica(which they are the only rental place) and they wanted to charge us $63.90 over the phone but online I was able to reserve it for $25.00 a day without insurance which they charge supposdly $20 per day. Just be careful, they still enjoy taking advantage of the tourist and some of them have the mentally that as Americans we have money to throw away and are not so nice....

“Horrible Service”

The rooms are actually cabins and they are good. We had cabins close to the pool, spa and reception. Service was terrible. Only when I gave the staff a tip they actually started to do their job. Like bees to honey... The food in the breakfast buffet was re-heated for the whole week. We only got fresh food one morning. The re-heated sausage slices were dry and looked like beef jerky. The re-heated pancakes were hard and taste-less. The fruit in the buffet had flies all over it. I do not know how people actually ate some of it. It appears that the hotel caters mainly to tourists that only stay one night in the hotel. There were numerous tour buses with American, German and Norwegian tourists that stopped over for one night. The European guests had no manners. One of them took the made to order omelet my wife had ordered. Another almost walked away with the bread she had in the toasting machine. I really do not know why people here give this place such high reviews. It is also in the middle of nowhere and about 20 minutes from a small town. The food was good, but I noticed that the government was taxing our meals at a 25% rate. Outrageous.

“A Rich Experience”

My wife and I stayed here in January and from the moment we drove up the road to our last day here (we extended for a day) our experience was what one dreams of in a vacation. The setting is picturesque and superbly landscaped and the rooms are private, spacious, and rustic. The restaurant serves great Costa rRican food. Have the Tres Leche and you will return just for that. Make sure you walk in the National Park. We had Eduardo as our guide and he gave us a great tour. We also went to the hanging bridges and they were spectacular. And after our day we always had the return to the hotel to look forward to. Take a walk in laFortuna. The people are friendly and the food in some restaurants is inexpensive and tasty.

“Sit back, relax, and enjoy your volcano view”

This place was a gem! It was easy to find, staff was very friendly and amenable to our needs. Small road leading to cabins is unpaved. Our beds were comfy, shower is huge, and there was a small fridge, coffee pot with Cafe Brit coffee, and a nice flat screen TV with cable. We had a fantastic view of the volcano and saw it's peak from the back porch. Breakfast is great: selection of fruit, drinks, meats, and made to order eggs. Dinner was also delicious (fish and soups tasty). It's a very short drive to the center of La Fortuna.

“dav”

nice hotel, nice staff, big bungalow bedroom but old inside, ugly white light everywhere, free internet, pool not heated, jaccuzi also, good breakfast, clean room, tv in the room, bungalows are at the bottom of the volcano.

Area recommendations
no lave on the volcano. ask to locals for to find a hot water river, it's free, don't go to the hotel which ask to pay $40 to enjoy this river

“Beautiful stay by the volcano”

We loved our stay at Lomas del Volcan last month. We were there for 4 days and 3 nights and I wish we could have stayed longer. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the accommodations were very comfortable and well-kept. We loved the landscape and the view of the volcano, and found the entire experience very relaxing and inspiring. I am glad we had a car though, as the hotel itself is on a slight hill, maybe almost a mile from the main street. The road to get from the main street to the hotel is unpaved and quite bumpy. So if you do have a car, be ready for a rocky road. We found after traveling through other areas of the country though, that this particular road was typical though of the bad roads all over. Be ready for a driving experience!! I would go back to Lomas del Volcan in a heartbeat though. Having your own bungalow that is quiet, spacious and in such a stunning setting, is something worth doing more than once.

What to pack
Good hiking shoes and a solid raincoat! Why people think they can go to a country that is so wet without these items is beyond me. How can you hike in mud and through hills and villages with gym shoes? Invest in these items prior to traveling to Costa Rica unless you plan on staying at your hotel the whole time.

“Great spot”

Great place, very private and clean. Friendly staff, very helpful. This was our one of our favorite places on our trip. Though we also went to and enjoyed the Observatory, we enjoyed our time at Lomas much more, as it isn't overrun.
