We really enjoyed our weekend stay here. The park is in a great location with lots of amazing walks you can do. Also some fantastic surf beaches. Lots of good restaurants and shops close by too. The wineries in this area are amazing as well. A golfers heaven as the golf club is just across the road. All in all can't wait to go back.
I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Torquay! The hosts were generous and very friendly but not at all intrusive. The room was very well appointed and clean. The guest amenities were very impressive including indoor pool and spa, king size pool table, table tennis and bbqs! Not to mention all day complimentary coffee machine and very reasonably priced bottled drinks. The beach is just up the road, an easy 5 minute walk. We are already trying to work out when we can go back!
I chose the Lorne Coachman Inn for two reasons. 1: It had a room with a bed and a fold-out couch; and 2: The reviews pretty much all said that the owners were nice people. When we checked in, Angela was super-chatty and nice and personable. She told us all about the features of the room etc, told us how to use the air conditioning and gave us information on how to use the free in-room WiFi.
She told us the double bed was very comfortable, but didn't say anything about the fold-out bed. I queried her about it, because I wanted to make sure my travel buddy had somewhere to sleep! It turns out Angela had assumed my travel buddy and I were a couple (we're both gay women) and told us it was OK to share a bed; that it really didn't bother them and that we would be more comfortable in the double. It was kind of funny to me and my travel buddy and we just smiled and nodded and moved on with our lives. What was really nice about it is that Angela showed that the Coachman Inn is gay-friendly. For many gay travellers, this is super-important, because after a long trip to wherever, we don't need the hassle of a homophobic inn-keeper judging us and looking down on us (or refusing to honour our booking altogether) just because we're different. I'll be honest, if I'm tossing up between two hotels that seem kind of the same, and one has been reviewed as gay-friendly, I'll give my hard-earned dollars to the gay-friendly place every time.
Stayed two nights - one so hot and the next freezing cold, but that is Victoria's weather. The view from the deck was fantastic - including the close encounters with the local cockatoos who visited our deck each morning.
