Off the beaten track

Posted 17-Apr-2015
Pros: We liked the location. So peaceful. Entertainment was low key and 4 nights a week in the bar Peanuts with drinks Breakfast
Cons: Toiletries were disappointing As paying for Wifi €10 it would have been good to have been able to use more than one device at a time.
Location: The hotel is set in a residential area not amongst other hotels or holiday apartments so quiet. Several restaurants within walking distance
We had a very pleasant week here. Staying in a pool view superior room on B&B basis. Well appointed room typical of holidays hotels. Clean but a little tired and worn, carpet stains and marked furniture. Do not rely on hotel toiletries as only shower gel and shampoo provided and cheap and cheerful at that. Pool and bar areas very nice. Outdoor pool very cold but then it was only early April. Indoor pool not used (you need to buy a hat at reception to go in there). The staff are all very friendly and added bonus of peanuts served with all cold drinks in the bar. Very good breakfast. No decaf coffee. All meals are buffet style. Staff very friendly and helpful in dining room. There are two small but beautiful beaches within 25 mins walk. Both have restaurants and facilities but not sure of safety for swimming. There is a courtesy bus to a larger beach further afield but we didn't go there. There are several restaurants within walking distance. A must visit is a small bar about 10 mins stroll on the main road which is not much to look at, Dos Coehlas, run by Nelson, excellent coffee and a lot of the locals use this bar. Serves good portions, not cordon bleu but a decent cheap meal. Also the new tapas bar going about 15 -20 mins walk the other way up the main road was brilliant and is a must visit too. both have car parks as well.

Best Hotel I Have EVER Stayed In

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Pros: Everything!
Location: Relaxing location, few restaurants nearby but take advantage of the courtesy bus if you want more choice!
Just back from 8 days at the Baia Grande and it is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are comfortable, the bathroom luxurious, facilities are great, prices for food and drink reasonable and the staff very friendly. The shuttle bus to and from Albufeira operates at reasonable times (tip - if you get the 12 oclock bus the next one back is at 4.20pm which is quite a long time to mooch about if the weather isnt great so we started getting the 9.30 and coming back at 12 which is just about right. I did have reservations about relying on a shuttle bus given the bad weather we had for a few days, but needn't have, because although the bus only carries 8 passengers they were happy to do a second trip if more than 8 people wanted to travel in. Breakfast was brilliant - porridge, pancakes, yogurt, fruit, cakes, bread/ham/cheese plus hot bacon, eggs, hash browns, tomatoes, sausages etc. W ate lunch in the bar one day, just paninis and fries but it was quick, well cooked and reasonably priced and one night we ate the buffet meal which changes every day and was plentiful and quickly replenished if any item ran low. The views out of the restaurant and the piano bar are of the outside pool which is visually quite stunning and there were plenty of sunbeds (although due to the time of year that is probably to be expected. There are three restaurants, one as you turn right and walk along the road, one straight ahead (the Marinheiro where the food was absolutely fantastic

Short break for some winter sunshine

Posted 06-Apr-2015
Pros: The location and the relaxed atmosphere
Cons: The coffee and the juices at breakfast weren't good; we preferred to drive to Apolonia supermarket in Gale which has great coffee and pastel de nata.
Location: Short walk to lovely beach. 5 minute drive to Gale beach with choice of 3 bar/restaurants. Albufeira marina and town is walkable or a v short drive
This was a great place to stay for an out of season break; there are beautiful coastal walks with acess to several lovely beaches just a few minutes from the hotel. We didn't have dinner in the hotel so a car was handy to reach great local restaurants nearby, though a new fish restaurant ha couple of minutes walk away was just opening which would resolve that, and the local bar also has a basic menu which was fine.

Lovely hotel near to a beautiful bay beach.

Posted 22-Mar-2015
Pros: The staff. The location.
Cons: The carpets cleaned in rooms. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Nicer furniture on balcony .
Location: The location very remote. Nothing to do near by, especially if the weather not too good. No shops in vicinity .
The hotel was a lovely experience, the staff very nice and reception very helpful. It would be nice if you had a shop on site. It would also be a good idea to have tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. All over we hade a very good experience .

Our 7th visit and still we want more! Friendly, laid back staff with a relaxed atmosphere and no queuing or fighting for space. A credit. This time was our 30th wedding anniversary and a bottle of champagne appeared on our bed on the actual day. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH See you again soon!

Good hotel but a bit isolated

Posted 08-Mar-2015
The Baia Grande lived up to my expectations, the staff and the rooms were very well presented. It would be interesting to see how the hotel coped in the high season, when we stayed the hotel was less than full. If I was to revisit, I would have to seriously consider hiring a car as the hotel was outside the nearest town Albufeira, and the nearest attractions some distance away. However to their credit the hotel did offer a free shuttle service to Albufeira several times a day.

Hübsches Hotel in sehr ruhiger Lage

Posted 07-Dec-2014

November 2014 - Baia Grande

Posted 22-Nov-2014
Pros: -good location -nice staff -nice piano bar with live music -nice ocean view from the room (if you take a seaside room) -good breakfast buffet
Cons: Outdoor pool looks very nice but was cold (unheated), so it couldn't really be used for swimming (however there is also a heated indoor pool).
Location: 10 min on foot to the ocean, several great beaches to visit. There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to Albufeira (takes 7 min to get there).
Stayed for 13 days in November 2014. Very good overall impression. Very quiet environment in and around the hotel (in November), many great beaches around (Coelha, Sao Rafael, Castelo), absolutely incredible cliffs (!!!). Ocean water warm enough to swim even in the winter months. Swam several times, the only problem was high waves. There's not so much "civilization" around the hotel, which was also a good issue, especially if you need a quiet place for the stay, but the nearest city (Albufeira) is only 7 min away, there's a free shuttle bus from the hotel. Been to Spain before, in my opinion Portugal is very different from it. Strongly recommend this hotel and Portugal as a country to visit.
