We loved our stay at Grand City Hotel. Were not quite sure of the area when we first arrived but once we walked through the entrance and saw the red carpet and the restaurant we were very happy with our hotel pick.
Good hotel, very nice pleasant rooms, new decor and the bathrooms are to a very high standard. I would just note that with no aircon in the rooms, the windows are security approved and hence after opening they close themselves after a while, which makes the night very stuffy with no ventilation.
This hotel is in the heart of the city - just a 5 minute walk from Friedrickstrasse and 10 minutes at most from Unter den Linden. The hotel is very easy to get to from the airport (Tegel) taking the 128 bus and then the U6 to the Naturkundemuseum (staff sell tickets at the airport bus stops so you don't even have to figure out the ticket machines!). This takes less that 30 minutes and really isn't worth taking a taxi for given that the ticket for 2 Euros 80 covers both bus and train. The hotel is about 3 minutes on foot from the U Bahn. We were greeted warmly and taken straight to our room which is very spacious, comfortable and well decorated. The bathroom is exceptionally modern and recently refurbished - and once again spacious. The room is quiet. Breakfast is served until 11am at weekends and provides a wealth of choice from the famous smoked salmon and blinis to hams and cheeses, sweet patries and hot selection. The buffet is kept well stocked throughout the morning service and cannot be faulted. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of restaurants and snack bars in the vicinity and the neighbourhood is safe and pleasant for an evening stroll. This hotel is a gem and should not be missed. I will be booking again for our next trip.
Friendly staff, easy check in. Room is spacious, clean and had thoughtful touch such as bottles of water, glasses and small chocolate eggs and sweets in a bowl. Room was at the back and was quiet. Reasonably priced for where you are. Reception is on the ground floor and hotel on rooms on the second. It is part of a quiet apartment block and you ar4 given keys so you are free to come and go as you wish. Very short walk to the nearest U and S bahn stop. You can walk to a lot of points of interest from the hotel too and there are plenty of bars and restaurants (reasonably priced) nearby too. Breakfast was a good choice of rolls, cheese, meats, yogurts, cereal, juices, teas and coffee as well as boiled eggs etc. Not included in price but worth while for 6 euros a person. A pleasant stay and I would go to Hotel Novalis again.

Brilliant apartment, great location, has everything you need for a great stay in Berlin.
Would have no issue recommending Old Town Apartments to anyone.
The Staff at the office in Metzer Strasse were very helpful, with tips and advice on what to see and do.
The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof. We found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. Our room was not massive but in a city like Berlin we were sightseeing all day and only in the hotel for sleeping and breakfast. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet which was always stocked with amazing meats, cheese and cereals. The hotel was full of different groups of people from couples to backpackers to families.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mikon Eastgate and would definitely recommend the hotel to others and possibly visit again.

Stayed for 3 days with my entire family (group of seven). Comfortable apartment with plenty of space.
Neighborhood is nothing special, but there is a metro (U-bahn) station just a few steps away, so you can get anywhere you want in the city very quickly.
