Germantown

Hip restaurants and a farmers market make this a lively neighbourhood, while the historic buildings offer windows into the community’s rich past.

Germantown is a quaint district filled with chic restaurants and quirky boutiques in converted factories. Just outside the Nashville city center, the zone retains its character through the many historic homes lining its streets. Visit Germantown to admire the architecture and discover the culinary innovation of the many restaurants and cafés.

At the northwestern end of this diamond-shaped district is the Morgan Recreation Center. Bring your kids to the open-air playground and enjoy a picnic on the grass. Get a bike from the rental station and cycle along the greenway trails. Head south from the park to find streets of sleek and edgy restaurants behind historic façades.

Enjoy a range of culinary delights, from American classics to Italian food. Relax with a book in one of the fashionable cafés, while savoring artisanal cupcakes, seasonal bites and espressos.

Look nearby for the tall spire of the Assumption Church. Note that this historic site dates back to the late 1850s and was occupied by the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War.

In Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park just south of the area’s southern boundary, spot the impressive World War II Memorial, which consists of a large polished granite globe surrounded by pillars bearing information about how people from Tennessee contributed to war efforts. Nashville’s Farmers Market operates near here daily.

Watch a baseball game at First Horizon Park and trace regional history in the Tennessee State Museum.

Find Germantown between Salemtown, Buena Vista and the western bank of the Cumberland River in northern Nashville. Walk north from the city center for about 30 minutes to reach the heart of this zone or travel by bus to one of its stops. While you’re in the area, visit adjacent districts including the East Bank and North Nashville.

Germantown is small in size, but great in history and heritage.
