The cultural hub of the Sapphire Coast has art galleries to explore as well as annual festivals celebrating jazz, orchids and the scrumptious local food.

Water sports, hiking and outdoor adventures at Merimbula are set among the stunning landscapes of the ocean, lakeside and coastal national park. Walk along the beach, surf the clear waters, go sea kayaking or paddle around Merimbula Lake and enjoy encounters with wildlife.

Bask on the sands and walk along the 5-kilometre- (3-mile) long beach stretching from Merimbula to Pambula. If you fall in love with Merimbula’s beach landscapes of golden sands and blue waters, browse one of the local art galleries to find a piece of the scenery to take home with you.

The underwater landscape is just as beautiful as the coastline. Experience scuba diving through old shipwrecks and encounter the diverse wildlife of the Sapphire Coast region, from seals to colourful fish and weedy sea dragons.

Join a fishing adventure on a chartered cruise and look out for whales on the horizon. These magnificent creatures migrate along this coastline from September to November. Freshly caught fish, prawns, mussels and oysters are on the menu year-round at Merimbula’s restaurants.

Take a boardwalk stroll around picturesque Merimbula Lake, hire a boat and explore, or hike through the surrounding Bournda National Park to see kangaroos and wallabies and a multitude of birdlife. Be on alert for fossils and shell middens left after the feasts of the Dyirringany Aboriginal people, as many have been found in this park. Head to Wallagoot Lake, also within the park, for fast-paced water sports like waterskiing and wakeboarding.

Merimbula is the perfect place to holiday with children, with its calm lakes for swimming and plentiful outdoor activities. Visit the local fun park, Magic Mountain Recreation Park, where families can try mini golf, water slides and tobogganing.

With its temperate year-round climate, Merimbula’s outdoor attractions can be enjoyed no matter what the time of year. Fly into the town’s own airport, which services flights from Sydney and Melbourne.
