A trip to Vejle means a visit to Denmark’s biggest gorge and longest tunnel valley – plus great shops, historic sights and innovative architecture.

When travelling to Vejle, you can combine worthwhile sights with fun outdoor activities. Shopping and museums are a must, not to mention the lovely scenery that gives the town its uniqueness.

Vejle originated as a ford over the Vejle river, and the actual word ‘vejle’ also means ‘ford’. Its strategic location within the modern day ‘Triangle’ means Vejle has always played a major role in transport and commerce, giving rise to is one-time nickname of ‘Denmark’s Manchester’.

A weekend break or longer holiday in Vejle has to include the local countryside. Get on your walking boots or bike helmet and explore Denmark’s biggest gorge, Grejsdalen, for mushroom hunting in the autumn, and enjoy the sight of fresh green treetops in the spring. Go sailing on Vejle Fjord to see how the town rises from the shore up the steep banks where the most exclusive homes are located. And of course check out Vejle’s newest landmark right on the waterfront: Bølgen, an innovative "wave-shaped" architectural design .

Vejle is also a paradise for children! Gorilla Park Vejle in the Nørreskov woods lets children and adults alike clamber amongst the treetops, and of course Legoland® is the place for awesome constructions made of LEGO® bricks and a world class amusement park. Givskud Zoo is home to hundreds of exotic animals and offers the chance of getting up-close to lions, giraffes and others.

The charming shopping centre offers a wide range of shops with everything from fashion to shoes, home accessories and jewellery. After a busy day, you'll easily find an atmospheric restaurant with top quality food. And if you've still got energy to spare, dance the night away in one of the town’s nightclubs. The excellent road and rail links to the rest of Denmark and international airport at Billund only 30 km away make it easy to reach Vejle. The train station is right next to a major bus terminus, making it easy to get around town or further afield by bus.

Vejle is a great base for exploring a large part of South Jutland and Funen. You will also be staying in a town with lots to offer on the entertainment and scenery front.
