Excellent stay - the ideal place to decompress, away from the hustle and bustle of the city! St. James is idyllic, and a holiday destination for those seeking to wind down and take things slower - Sonnekus is also ideally located for everyone looking to unwind, and enjoy local cuisine, and white sand beaches. Will definitely be coming back for more!

While Cape Town itself was wonderful and the food at the hotel was quite good, the overall service fell well short of expectations. Throughout my stay, I constantly had to track down basic amenities and follow up on requests. Service in the restaurant was consistently slow, and on one occasion, I sat waiting for a menu for quite a while, only to be told the staff didn't realize I was there—despite having been acknowledged by a team member when I sat down. Small details were repeatedly missed: complimentary water wasn't placed in the room prior to arrival, requiring me to ask for it, and finished laundry wasn't delivered as promised. There were also communication missteps regarding my room status—my key jacket indicated an upgraded room, but I was placed in a standard entry-level room. If no upgrades were available due to capacity, that is completely understandable, but falsely marking it as an upgrade was disappointing. Finally, checking out at 3:45 AM for a busy travel day was unnecessarily stressful due to confusion over an approved laundry promotion that required extra time to resolve. Given the high ratings, I expected a much smoother, higher-touch experience.

The Hote's location is very good. Walking distance from some bars and restaurants. The room was very spacious and beautiful. There is however is problem with the water system of the hotel. We stayed in Room 808 and the sound of running water through the pipes were so loud, that they had to move us at 04:00 in the morning to another room, because we could not tolerate the sound anymore. We were moved to room 812. Although we could still hear the water running through the pipes, it was not as loud when you closed the bathroom door. The buffet breakfast was very good, but it would have been nice if the waiter informed us of the menu where we could also order from. I would stay there again just on a different floor.

The room was very clean. Our first room was facing a construction site and was noisy. Upon request, they moved us to a different room. It took them the whole day to get the room ready. The breakfast staff was numerous but slow. There were nice juices, but you need to ask for them. Coffee/tea service was very slow. The breakfast overall was amazing.
