Courteous and helpful staff, clean room and spa, excellent facilities. great service in the dining room and room service. Thoroughly enjoyed my weekend's stay - wish I'd booked for longer!

Great location, clean and comfortable room. Can only mark down on the heat. It was impossible to cool the room down or open a window for fresh air which made the mornings quite unpleasant.

Arrived 30 minutes before check-in and appreciated we were early. We were told we couldn’t check in as there were others waiting but they would call us when we could and to wait in the bar which is at the reception area. Others left the bar to check in and we were not called. Then people arrived and checked straight in. After this happened a couple of times, I asked if we could check in yet. We could! No apology for not calling us forward. Room was dated and smelt of stale smoke in the bedroom area. The added living area of the ‘suite’ was a good space. We tried to put the TV on in the bedroom area (to finish watching the rugby we had been watching whilst waiting), we could not get it to work. This morning whilst trying to shower it was impossible. The shower head was completely broken with water gushing out in all directions, all over the bathroom floor. The water was coming from the seal between the pipe and the shower head. You could not shower. We both had to have very quick baths so as not to delay our plans for the day. Made reception aware upon check out to be told simply, they would tell maintenance and management. No offer of anything despite us not having the basic ability to shower.

Room was clean and good bedding. Unfortunately it was very near the main road and was very noisy. It served a purpose, and was fine for the money.

The room was excellent, bed was so comfortable that we slept in on our 1st night, leaving only 1 and a half hours to get ready for a wedding we were going to. The bathroom was lovely, a large shower with rainfall head. Very deep bath that we used on 2nd day. A great menu and restaurants to choose from. The bar was so welcoming with a great whiskey selection for myself and cocktail selection my partner loved. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our stay Matfen Hall was excellent and I highly recommend. We didn’t use the spa facilities this time but definitely will on our return. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a pleasure

Local to city centre

Great location in the city centre, a bit noisy as right bext to a pub but good for visitors.
