First of all if you don’t want a big resort location then Portoroz is not for you some of the smaller towns in either Croatia or Slovenia maybe more for you. I enjoyed it middle of the week in peak season it was not too busy. The rooms in the hotel are on the dated side as other comments imply but they were clean and I found them fine.
