Great place to stay!

Customer facing staff (servers, concierge) were outstanding. Kudos to Leonardo, Ulyses, Omar, Alex and Alfredo. Back office staff (room staff, admin) not quite so good. We only got nightly turn down service about 50% of the time and our welcome letter was addressed to someone else. Emilianos restaurant was disappointing. The main room was closed and we were shunted into a spare room, square with white walls, little decoration and no entertainment - the atmosphere was terrible. We dined on the patio a second evening, and it appears they had a static menu as we could spot no differences from our first visit. To cap it all, the food was overcooked. Fortunately, the hotel offers complementary dining at its sister locations. Tau, on the beach, was our savior. The service was excellent both during the day and at night, and the food outstanding. Their menu varied night to night, they had an excellent singer providing entertainment, and the open air ambiance completed the experience. Well done to Leslie and her staff of Saul, Isaac, Antonio, Enrique and Erick. We also went to the Andrea restaurant in Velas Vallarta, but after being served by a disinterested water in a room of screaming children running around we vowed to never go back. Finally we went to Grand Velas and dined in their Piaf restaurant. It was the culinary highlight of our trip. Overall, though, we had a very pleasant experience at Casa Velas. Would we go back there? The jury is still out on this.

Hotel Geneve is my favourite Mexico City hotel, including for tour groups. As the owner of a tour company, it’s important to work with hotels that provide comfort and professionalism. For me, it’s not so much about expecting everything to be perfect, but how quickly and efficiently staff responds to any hiccups along the way. This hotel is wonderful and the staff make it a welcoming place. We all loved the telephone bar and their delicious snacks. The hotel bathtubs were our only concern - mainly that one of them wasn’t draining (mine was also slow), and only one of them had an anti-slip mat, but they brought one for another guest upon request. We will definitely return!

Hotel Geneve is my favourite Mexico City hotel, including for tour groups. As the owner of a tour company, it’s important to work with hotels that provide comfort and professionalism. For me, it’s not so much about expecting everything to be perfect, but how quickly and efficiently staff responds to any hiccups along the way. This hotel is wonderful and the staff make it a welcoming place. We all loved the telephone bar and their delicious snacks. Our room was ok. It had an old AC unit that was not cooling well. There was grout falling on floor. The breakfast was not tasty compared to other hotels buffets.

We booked Sandos Playacar because it partners with Sandos Caracol which you could visit for the day. Caracol has cenotes and is more of a jungle theme. When we arrived we found that a visit to Caracol now required payment. This was not a good surprise. There also wasn’t room service unless you were a “Royale Elite” member. However , even with these inconveniences, we still had a great time. We heard the food was sub par, but we found great food at each of the restaurants we went to. Even the buffet was amazing. The taco shop was open in the afternoon well into the evening and we were regulars there. It was only the French restaurant appetizers that didn’t meet our palate. We stayed by the family pool. It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach, but it was through a jungle area and it was very pleasant. This pool was nice. Our 10 month old loved it. There is a shuttle that runs which we caught a couple of times, but there always seemed to be a line. There was another pool near the beach for families, but only if you were “Royal Elite”. there were adult pools scattered throughout . The beach was amazing. Wide and clean with beach volleyball and soccer. We went when rain was forecast every day. There were a couple of hard rains and the waves on the beach were a little big, but still easily enjoyed by a 10 month old. There were plenty of activities for all ages. Some bikes had car seats on the back. We tried the padel court and even met some people to play with.
